Just read J Overends blog on the BBC. Agree with some of it but came to the line "There is more stability in a weeble" (Referring to the GB mens game) Now he has just become a father for the second time and perhaps been watching too much cbeebies or something but thats an awful line !
Singles R1 (L32) (3) Stephanie Cornish (GBR) v (WC) Camila Acuna (PAR) If Steph has another good week then she could move into the top 50. The competition in the South American tournaments strengthens each week, as the climactic Grade A (Copa Gerdau in Brazil) approaches, but Steph has a friendly sta...
Singles R1 (L32) (1) Hiroyasu Ehara (JPN) v Lewis Burton (GBR) Genia Gamazov (ISR) v (Q) Jack Carpenter (GBR) James Marsalek (GBR) v (WC) Martin Cuevas (URU) Francisco Aparicio (ARG) v Ashley Hewitt (GBR) Nick Jones (GBR) v (2) Andrea Collarini (ARG) Another poor draw for the boys, with opponents in...
There is a welcome return here for Amy Askew, playing her first tournament since October. (4) Jessica Ren (GBR) vs. Anetta Munosova (SWE) (6) Ebba Unden (SWE) vs. Amy Askew (GBR) (2) Nicola George (GBR) vs. Marija Milutinovic (SWE)
A strong 25K field with cut just inside 200, should feature Georgie Stoop in the main draw. Emily Webley-Smith was a late withdrawal from qualifying because of injury, but 4 other Brits made the 48 strong draw. If Jade wins her first match she runs up against last year's US Junior Open finalist, whilst...
Another huge qualifying draw in Spain, but apart from the Wardinator (who may have an SE or be having a well-earned rest next week), where have all the Brits gone? (*) QR1: James Allemby UNR v Jon Polanec (SLO) UNR (*) No Brits on the main draw acceptance list either, and the dream team both missed the qua...
Davis Cup Day one - Press Blog - Drew Brown 10am on Day One Fairly quiet press centre so far.....the hum of key strokes is only broken by the 'crack' of the press marquee floor as the even the lightest of jurnos enters. However the loudest sound comes from Mr Flatmans booming laugh ! Still there is genuine...
During the winter Grand Prix tournaments have been held for our juniors in 5 different agebands, culminating in a series of Masters events at the National Tennis Centre during January and February. The first of these this weekend is the 18 and under Masters, which includes the Thomson twins, Olive...
So the second tie.... and with us being 1-0 down, it becomes a must win match. Eaton blew three match points against him the last time they met, so have a chance against him, but Stakhovsky is still the big favourite to win the match.
One of those horrendous Friday start, four rounds of qualifying on clay affairs, and to make it worse the main draw is so strong that even Matt Illingworth has to play in qualifying this week. All the Brits have avoided section 1, where the top Q seed in a ringer WC ranked 254, but look who Matt's drawn in...
As I mentioned on the DC thread, GB's oldest currently world-ranked player has started posting on AM.com. I asked him if he'd mind writing a bit about his experiences and how he gets into qualifying for some of the big tournaments and his reply is fascinating - well I think so anyway.Picking up someone...
Oh dear, it looks like the Brits may have to bash each other again QR1: (q2) Richard Bloomfield WR 306 v (WC) Kenny de Schepper (FRA) WR 1190 QR1: Jonny Marray WR 435 v Mathieu Rodrigues (FRA) WR 378 Winners to play each other in QR2. The other seed in this section is (q5) Tim Smyczek (USA) WR 334.
Will concentrate this time on press conferences and some inside information. Will also give some match comment but not full match by match reports. We must keep the DC page on the bt.net site up to date. Can we have some volunteers to write some match reports ? PM me. BTW had a pleasant welcome from the jo...
I've started a new thread for the individual matches. Let's see if Josh can get us off to a good start. -- Edited by ForeverDelayed at 14:26, 2009-03-06
What on earth is Donald Young WR 130 doing playing qualifying for a 15K Future?! Fortunately, the Brits have avoided his section, though Chris is in the same section as (q2) Vladmir Obradovic (SRB) WR 389, another obvious late entrant (since all the other Q seeds are ranked outside the top 700), and Bu...

Elena Baltacha was due to be the 5th seed in qualifying but withdrew before her first match with a right elbow inflammation.
But in the doubles Sarah Borwell, reinstated in the top 100 this week, continues her partnership with Courtney Nagle, who is at 101, and in the first round they have drawn Mari...
