Girls: ITF High Coast Junior World Ranking Tournament, Sweden - Grade 3 (Week 9)

There is a welcome return here for Amy Askew, playing her first tournament since October.

(4) Jessica Ren (GBR) vs. Anetta Munosova (SWE)
(6) Ebba Unden (SWE) vs. Amy Askew (GBR)
(2) Nicola George (GBR) vs. Marija Milutinovic (SWE)

R1 (L32)

(4) Jessica Ren (GBR) d. Anetta Munosova (SWE) 6-2 6-4
(6) Ebba Unden (SWE) d. Amy Askew (GBR) 6-1 6-3
Marija Milutinovic (SWE) d. (2) Nicola George (GBR) 6-4 6-4

Amy's defeat is to be expected given her long absence, but Nicola is playing a lot of tournaments and struggling against much lower ranked players. She was a finalist here last year, so as a result of this defeat she will drop to around 200 in the rankings

R2

(4) Jessica Ren (GBR) d. (LL) Cecilia Estlander (FIN) 6-0 6-2

QF

(4) Jessica Ren (GBR) v (Q) Patricia Martins (POR)

Jess should be able to beat her doubles partner, but the top seed Ellen Allgurin (14 year old Swedish Fed Cup player) is her likely semi-final opponent, and she looks to be in ominously good form

Time to get the bigger points Jess. If both reach the semis it should be a good indicator of where Jess is at.

They have both reached the semis, albeit Jess having more trouble than I expected with her doubles partner. They played at the Salk Open in January, with Allgurin winning in straights. At least Jess is guaranteed to have her best ever points haul from an ITF tournament, and we are guaranteed a doubles finalist.

QF

(4) Jessica Ren (GBR) d. (Q) Patricia Martins (POR) 2-6 6-2 6-4

SF

(1) Ellen Allgurin (SWE) v (4) Jessica Ren (GBR)

Doubles SF

(1) CURIC (CRO) / GEORGE (GBR) v MARTINS (POR) / REN (GBR)

An excellent win for Jess, probably her best ever in terms of rankings, gives her the first ITF final of her career. I guess it was a long match, so hope she has something left for the final. If she wins the final she will overtake her elder sister Jennifer.

SF

(4) Jessica Ren (GBR) d. (1) Ellen Allgurin (SWE) 7-5 5-7 6-4

Final

(4) Jessica Ren (GBR) v Marija Milutinovic (SWE)

Doubles SF

(1) CURIC (CRO) / GEORGE (GBR) d. MARTINS (POR) / REN (GBR) 6-4 1-6 [10-6]

Final

(1) CURIC (CRO) / GEORGE (GBR) v MILUTINOVIC/UNDEN (SWE)

Thats a great win for Jess. lets hope she can now move on and show the potential we know she has. A win would get her inside the top 200.

Sweden has proved a happy hunting ground for the Rens this year. Jennifer won her first Grade 4 title at the Salk open in January, and Jessica takes her first ITF title here.

Another super win for Jess given the amount of effort she would have needed to put in to win her previous two rounds. Also impressive that she could come back from a crushing first set.
