Elena Baltacha was due to be the 5th seed in qualifying but withdrew before her first match with a right elbow inflammation.

But in the doubles Sarah Borwell, reinstated in the top 100 this week, continues her partnership with Courtney Nagle, who is at 101, and in the first round they have drawn Mariya Koryttseva & Alla Kudryavtseva (UKR/RUS) and are in the same quarter as the 4th seeds.

The match is underway and Sarah was broken at *2-3 but they broke back and now Courtney is about to serve at *3-4.

...against the 4th seeds Dechy & Santangelo who have won three Grand Slams doubles titles between them so it will be a toughie.

Creditably they are pushing Dechy/Santangelo, but Courtney is struggling on serve.

Courtney's serve under pressure as at 5-6 in the first set, but they saved 2 match-points to force the tiebreak

They actually won their first point off the French/Italian pair in the tiebreak but still went down 7-5 7-6(2) - decent effort though considering their opponents' pedigree
