Sonay has beaten Leslie twice in two sets this season so this is a rather odd result. I wonder if she had some sort of problem.

Don't think it was anything than poor tennis to be honest.

I think it's difficult when you're suddenly presented with an opponent that you expect to beat.
Add to that the converse for Leslie ie she has nothing to lose, didn't expect to be here, didn't expect to win, you can be very relaxed
Add to that it was first time wimbledon for Son at, and she's quite a shy, reserved person
Which equates to poor tennis, net net, but might he part of the context

A real missed opportunity for Sonay, especially with a R2 match with Iga potentially on offer.

She sounded pretty down on herself on 5 Live there. She knows it wasn't good enough, and I've no doubt will have learnt a lot.

Yeah that third set was painful to watch - didn't look at all like the Sonay of the past few weeks. Very tentative, imprecise, unsure of herself.

To be fair, Pattinama Kerkhove played well, and bounced back from the second set very well. But I really think Sonay should have beaten her fairly handily.

Heather has started much more positively today, up a break in the final set.

Tamara Korpatsch GER 7-6(7) 5-7 *0-2 Heather Watson GBR

Great performance today, and surprisingly closes it out without an extra heartbeat needed. Well done Heather, well deserved in the end.

I can't help it, whatever she puts us through I just love her. That smile! So delighted for her to get that moment. Korpatsch was totally misfiring today, the break really hurt her. But oh well.

I am sure I saw an interview back around the Aussie Open where she talked about how much she was enjoying her tennis, what a good personal place she was in, etc etc?

Presumably that was a "cover" or is she in an up and down space?

Great news from Heather. Disappointing with everyone else really. So many missed chances with this draw. Probably a good thing ther arent any ranking points.

It looks as though she has recently broken up with her boyfriend (Courtney Duffus) as they have disappeared from each others Instagram feeds.

Heather's next opponent will be Qiang Wang (140). They met in Tianjin in 2019 with Heather winning 3 & 0.
