Shame for Serena, I would like her to get that one last Slam but it's not going to happen. She cant come back with such little preparation, the game has moved on.

As much as she wanted the last slam, I think coming back here was as much to exorcise the memories of how it all finished last year. Although defeat to Tan will be painful, at least she has gone out this time in a great and hard fought match.

Congrats to Harmony Tan, have to say Im a little bit miew about Serena in general and Im not entirely sure why she came back. But it took guts for Tan to win and she will remember it for the rest of her life, Im sure.

I felt for Serena. Shes effortlessly won for so long that its probably hard to adjust to it not being simple anymore.

Delighted for the very happy kid in Harmony Tans box though!

Such a dramatic match - compelling to watch. Sad for Serena and the tournament, but hats off to Tan who never shrunk back.

A lot of people being snobby about her style of play on social media, but the contrasts were fascinating and Serena eventually undone by it.

People will remember that I've never been a fan of Harmony's tennis - BUT I completely agree with Grachka, it's nothing to be snobby about, each to their own style - and she did a brilliant job in neutralising Serena, using her skills, and sticking to the job in hand - AND I'd bet a pound on her, after seeing Serena play doubles with Ons, so was happy - and, yes, wasn't the little girl wonderful

A good win for Boults making up slightly for Swanny and Sonay's disappointment.

Can Heather finally capitalise on a fortunate draw?

That kid in the coaching box was the star of the show imho, she was lead cheerleader too and it was cute to see.

I'd hazard a guess that she is Harmony's little sister ;).

I've never really been a Serena fan, but found myself rooting for her.

It was a great match, and I hope it's not her last. Hats off to Harmony though, played her game and held her nerve.

Hard to know where Serena goes from here. Still a wonderful player and champion.
But surely if she still has the desire to want to break Margaret Courts record then she is going to have to play more events.
Gone are the days where she can just turn up and breeze through the draw like she used to.
Personally I am not sure she still has the same hunger as she has other stuff in her life now but maybe she wants to bow out on her terms.
Only Serena knows. But it was great to see her out there. Ever the Great Champion she will be.

But time marches on.....

BBC red button obviously thinking it's of more interest to watch Muguruza not bothering to compete than seeing a potential British win
