RE: Week 24 - Challenger (€137,560+H) - Nature Valley Open, Nottingham, Great Britain (grass)

For the record:

L32:  (Q) Ryan Peniston WR 681 defeated (2) Bernard Tomic WR 88 by 7-6(2) 1-0 retired ban-woohoo.gif

Quite a boost for his ranking!  wink

*****

L16:  (14) Antoine Hoang (FRA) WR 118 (= CH) vs (Q) Ryan Peniston WR 681

Can't see him winning that one!

Raises Ryan to 514 live rankings, 11 points an a career high.

His form on the early season indoor events in GB promised much , he got the most wins without reaching a final at m25 level, so I had hopes hed start to breakthrough

What an excellent win, retirement or no.

Hoang was amazingly impressive during RG but he did come rather out of nowhere to shine there, and it was on clay (obviously) so I don't think anyone would think he is confirmed in his position - it remains to be seen whether RG was a bit of a flash in the pan or part of a sudden move up.

Here's hoping it was a flash in the pan & that Ryan is in with a ghost of a chance, then!

A fantastic week for Paul. Really stretched today but he is obviously not out of his depth at Challenger level on a hard court. A great shame that the tournament has had to come in doors as really from a developmental perspective a missed opportunity to play on grass. Similarly in the short term Ryan probably benefitted from playing on a hard court which is the surface de jour of college tennis. I have noticed we now get very little furniture spam which is fantastic will somebody on the board please sort out the weather.

That, I'm afraid, Oakland, is way above the mods' pay grade.   wink

Looks like the weather continues, 4 mens matches moved to Trent already for an 1130 start. Not including the match between Dan and Jack, which is now due off at 1 pm.

Ladies schedule hasnt been updated yet, not sure what the plan is there

Birmingham is grey mostly, and spitting with rain here.  A couple of whitish clouds, but not convincing that' it's going to be a good day now.

What impact does this terrible weather have in terms of the tournaments' profit. I guess all tickets refunded, so it's an absolute disaster for the LTA?

When does Queens start? Do we think Evo might pull out here as hes going to have to play a few matches in a day as the tournament plays catch up

I am sure they will have taken out insurance against such losses.

Seriously? I doubt it. I've never heard of any tournament director doing it. Weather insurance is really expensive, too, isnt' it?
