RE: Week 46 - ATP World Tour Finals - London (Hard)

If it ends up as a 3 way one win each tie amongst Andy, Nishikori and Raonic, at least Fed had the decency to beat Raonic in straight sets and with an overall pretty good game %, winning 6-1 7-6(0).

Feel free to pick up precisely how you left off, Milos :)

I see that Stan as thrashed Berdych 1&1 which is not what I expected given current form. I think this result is better for Andy's medium term rankings aspirations, given that Stan will probably have a lot of points to come of at the end of the Aussie open, because with all due respect to him, I can't see him winning it again next year.

Is this the last year for London to host the tour finals?

It hasn't exactly been a festival of breathtaking and high quality tennis so far at the O2.

Originally London was due to host the finals for 5 years (2009-2013) but it then got an extra 2 years (this year and next year). The ATP are now looking at what to do from 2016 onwards but most of the top players are eager for it to stay in Europe in order to cut down on travel. It is possible that it will remain in London for several more years. It is popular with the players, has been very well supported and has been a huge commercial success.

Federer won against Nishkori, so if Murray loses later then he is out.

I think a fairly decisive win for Fed was probably good though, although we can't know yet...

It was certainly needed if he doesn't go on to beat Fed on Thursday. If he doesn't, as said he now has to beat Raonic tonight anyway and he would also have to hope that Raonic beats Nishikori and then they do the sums ( 3 on one win ), hopefully quicker than on the infamous first occasion they had to do them at the O2.

Iff he beats both Raonic and Fed then he would be through if Raonic beat Nishikori. If though Nishikori won, it would be sums time again ( 3 on two wins ).

Early break for *2-1 and I still daren't relax. Raonic can't serve for toffee tonight, I hope that continues!

You are not kidding.

Raonic is starting to play much better. I hope Andy does it in straights, but he has made life a bit difficult for himself.

RR2: (5) Andy Murray WR 6 beat (7) Milos Raonic (CAN) WR 8 (CH 6 in Jul) by 3 & 5

Muzz will now go through if he beats Fed and Raonic beats Nishikori. If he beats Fed and Nishikori wins, it gets complicated, as it will if Raonic beats Nishikori and Andy loses to Fed.

Thursday:

RR3: (5) Andy Murray WR 6 v (2) Roger Federer (SUI) WR 2 (CH 1 in 2004)

H2H 11-11 but 1-3 in TMC/WTF (0-2 since it has been in London)

Edit: corrected the H2H - see later posts

Well got it done and he probably didn't want to be the first winner of the week to drop a set so managed to avoid that too.

However, I'd rather like Andy to beat Fed and Milos to beat Kei please so as to keep life simple.

And whatever, he's garnered 200 ranking points tonight so it was worth coming.
