I can't say I'm too upset. He would really have to beat Fed to qualify for the semis (and he would have to be serving a lot better to do that). If he did qualify it is likely to be to meet Novak in the semi - and I'm not too sure he could beat Novak either: Andy must surely be feeling some fatigue after the punishing schedule played to get here. In which case he would have played another match for no points and have no chance of any further points either, as he would be out. So, possiblilty, however difficult, of another 200 points only. He might be better off resting and then putting in a good training session for next year.

Of course I'd prefer him to beat Fed and Novak and whoever else would reach the final. I'm just not too confident he could do all that at the present.

Edit - of course Wawrinka might just beat Novak, he is a difficult match-up for him.

I'd make sure you took in the doubles if you have tickets for a Group A session, because your singles match doesn't last that long.

It's pretty astonishing that in 4 days there hasn't been one good singles match.

4&4, 1&6, 1&1, 1&1, 3&5, 3&2 3&1, 3&0.

It's ridiculous. Average games dropped is barely over 2. In-fact, Murray's been involved in the only two 'close' matches (relative, at least) that have been settled by just the one break in both sets. Every other match has either been settled by two break in at least one set, or by a bakery product in one or both sets.

Some pretty poor shows by most of the losers.

As for the winners, it's not ( thankfully ! ) an exhibition so if they can finish things in double quick time, go for it. I would have expected much more resistance.

Particularly in Group A if you look at who has thrashed who so far and the Friday line up, blinking might miss you quite a lot of the matches, but hey, surprise us.

I am guessing that Nishikori will play the "Energiser Bunny" aka Ferrer, who will step in as the alternate. As for the calculations if Ferrer wins and Fed beats Murray, well your guess is as good as mine. I'll leave that to the experts.

Yes, it counts for Nishikori. It would be a bit unfair if a player is penalised because his opponent had to withdraw.
