She, like all the juniors, have to play the nationals.  The points on offer are well below her 6th best and the incentives are largely covered by her levels at juniors and seniors for her age.  She already has 3 x W35 wild cards from the junior year end ranking to take, and one more W50.  So the W35 incentive is probably not needed.  So she is playing for a W100 main/Quali at Ilkley and a Wimbledon quali place, both of which she would probably get anyway.

Does this event carry Junior World Ranking points?

 No it doesnt

I didnt think so, the comment above just made me wonder!!

The UK rankings at Open, U18 and U16 are the only thing these points will affect - here you have 6 counters.  One counter can be from WTA points if high enough and the rest come from junior world events and national events.

I think it is 2600 points for winning the National Championships and Hannah K's lowest counter is 7200 for Wimbledon L16 last year.

I'm guessing LTA funded players will have to play nationals as part of their funding.

Do the players pay attention to the LTA points system though ? Im still not clear what it is actually used for!? I think the mens has Neal Skupski at the top ahead of Cam Norrie and Ive no idea whats its point is!

The only thing the LTA ranking does for these players is get them into the 18u nationals in the first place! Nothing Else
The wildcards for the grass events are given to the winner as an incentive to enter (they are told no wildcards if they dont enter and it can also affect their funding)

The top players cant gain any ranking points from the GB nationals - as they already have more from abroad - so this is why there were many years when the top players didnt play them as they couldnt gain ranking points. LTA was embarrassed about this so made it compulsory to play and gave incentives.

Which is perfectly fair and reasonable.

As per my previous post, I think the LTA's realisation that it looked dreadful, and hence carrot and stick to get the end-result you want, has been very successful

We've now got very good national championships, that are grabbing the attention of the press in other countries, and actually do showcase our best players

I agree its great that all juniors are being made to play the nationals.

The original observation was that Hannah K was maybe not putting her all into the matches and the conversation was a suggestion as to why this may be the case.  I'm sure she would like to win but she has bigger fish to fry in the next few weeks.

Mimi takes first set 63, and Hannah likewise 62

I think Hannah would really like to win this

It's a bit embarrassing to be touted as the new, big thing but not even win your own national championships (the U16s don't count)

And it's her home club

I'm sure she has bigger fish to fy in general, as does Mimi, and arguably Mika

But I think this is a feather she'd really like to have in her cap

Hannah wins 6-2 6-1 and was really a level above hep. Hannah really stepped up her game today and was really impressive to watch.
