2023 ITF Wheelchair Tour

GB men follow up their opening win over Chile with the loss of no games and today beat Poland with the loss of just 1 game in the singles matches. 1 game over 8 sets. Decent.

In the Juniors, our team faces Netherlands, a tough match. We won the opening singles win by 7-6 6-4 for Ruben Harris; our number one, Joshua Johns, lost the opening set 7-6 though, this could go to the doubles

Looks like Britain and Netherlands juniors tied the singles at 1 all, doubles has started but either didnt finish or the scoreboard froze early in the match.

oh, well done (do GB juniors and to The Addict!), that is a good win. NL were out toughest opponents in the group and 3rd seeds, so that is a strong win for us.

So far we have won 5 matches out of 5 across the 3 teams playing here. Started well but gets tougher after the group stages

Ruben Harris' opening win was a ranking upset, but also so was Joshua Johns loss. Nonetheless, lads ground out a good win.

In the Juniors, top seeded Australia lost to USA. USA thus win their group and reach the semis. GB should expect to top theirs and will most likely now meet Australia in that last 4 match. Our final group match is versus Belgium

The womens is totally open after one round of play, we still have France and Germany to face.

In the mens, the Group A comes down to a H2H match between Japan and France; winner takes the semis spot. Netherlands or USA should take Group D after both won their openers. Group C looks like Spain or Israel, who seem to be doing well across all formats of the event. In Group B, our final match is versus Brazil and to be frank we should comfortably win that.

looks like the ladies are the only team playing today from GB and they have lost to France.

Sadly, this goes down as a seeding upset, with both singles players losing in 2 sets - the French are closely ranked to us but slightly below and were seeded below us.

We are fortunately in the single 4 team group, meaning the top 2 from our group progress to the semis - France will be one of those now and we will play Germany in our final match to determine the other. Cornelia as our number 2 is ranked well above their number two, but Lucy is ranked 10 and their top player is 11. So it could easily, given Lucy is bang out of form, come down to a deciding doubles. We should still hope to win it and would be a major disappointment if we dont.

The mens and juniors look like they will play their final matches tomorrow, as presumably will the women with Germany

the ITF display of schedules, though, is a bit of a mess so wouldnt surprise me if our teams are playing today. Yesterday the ITF had pdf schedules posted and much more info, today it has been rearranged and looks like just a singles live scores system with little forward schedule information

results and tables arent updated on ITF site yet, so not sure where we stand exactly, but tomorrow we play as follows:

Womens - GB v Germany - winner will probably take second spot in the group and a semis place. Feels like a 50-50 tie and Germany beat GB last year in this event

Juniors - GB v Belgium - we are already through, but a win would secure top group spot

Mens - GB v Brazil - top already and a win would seem routine in this match

Last round of group play today. Likely semifinalists look like

Mens - Japan, GB, Spain and Netherlands. Not sure of how brackets work but I think Spain look most likely semis opponents.

Womens - Netherlands , Japan or USA, France and GB or Germany - match v Germany is winner takes all and NL would be most likely semis opponent. Looks tough to be frank.

Quads - Netherlands, USA , Israel and Japan already qualified. NL will play Japan and Israel versus USA - Israel are the surprise package so far

Juniors - USA, Australia (already certain) and GB and Netherlands look likely. We most likely would play Australia in the semis.

Note - juniors is officially Boys and girls but there are only a couple of teams with girls in their squads. Britain is all boys.

great news from the World Cup, the womens team won against Germany and 2-0, with doubles still to come; Lucy Shuker won a tough potential match against her opponent, v close in rankings, and she won handily.

So GB make the last 4, as do the Juniors, who thrashed Belgium easily, and the men are looking like doing the same versus Brazil

So, all 3 teams into the semis, which is in line with seedings, but still pleasing

And Britains men also complete their win;

Great to see 3 teams in the semis, then, not sure of opponents yet and presumably the semis will be tomorrow, I think finals are Sat and Sun

Major upset in the last mens group match today as France upset top seeded Japan, knocking Japan out and qualifying for the semis, that is a big upset!

So last 4's are

Mens - France, GB, Spain and Netherlands.

Womens - Netherlands , Japan, France and GB

Quads - Netherlands, USA , Israel and Japan

Juniors - USA, Australia and GB and Netherlands.

NL have 4 teams still in, we have 3 and are the second most represented left in.
