Sorry biggrin What I meant was, if you're offered a wildcard, you don't normally HAVE to withdraw, do you? But maybe you might withdraw, just to be polite, really, and make the lists 'real'?

It's not the offer of a wildcard I'm thinking about but the process.

I don't think a player would withdraw well before the withdrawal deadline, when they don't know where their final position on the acceptance list will be and whether they will need a wild card or not. Even if they did, it would be unwise to do so as withdrawals by the qualifying sign in may mean they no longer need the wild card.

Had she not withdrawn Sonay would only be 4 off the main draw, 2 if the SEs are unused with Emily Appleton above her. 2 late withdrawals from the main draw are quite likely so there is a good chance Sonay would have made the main draw directly and not have needed a wild card.

Thanks, Lamda.

I get your reasoning.

Which is a shame (not your fault!) coz I'd sort of been half-hoping the wildcard explanation might be the answer ...

Freya is listed in qualifying. I could've sworn she was listed in the main draw this morning. confuse

She was! itf-entries page only appears to update once a day.
https://itf-entries.netlify.app/tournament/W-ITF-GBR-01A-2022 shows the MD DA as 20 currently. If you look on Thursday this will likely be different. Whereas https://www.itftennis.com/en/tournament/w25-bath/gbr/2022/w-itf-gbr-01a-2022/acceptance-list/ shows only 18 MD DA!

She was - I have her noted as being at M19 as of 4am this morning when I made my own list. Now she's at Q1 - not that it will make any difference as I'm sure they won't need the two SE's

For someone who asked several weeks ago, why bother with ITF ranking points or what use are they, the entry list here shows how important they are (not saying it's right but just, under the current system, they really make a difference). And, of course, they're so easy to get.

The entry list is based off WTA points. THEN it goes to ITF points. And THEN to national rankings.

Emma Wilson has recently had some excellent results in domestic events. She has a national ranking of 1.

But she's not played any ITF events in three years (and only one in total).

So she's not in the qualifiers list but is an ALT, behind British players such as Abigail Amos (who has a single ITF point from winning a round in qualis in Chiswick 25k two years ago).

Now, I'm sure Emma will get into qualis, but that's not really my point - just showing that now you get ITF points for even winning in qualis (I think you have to make the FQR in 15ks, no?), a lot more players have a ranking and anyone without gets bumped down a long way.

One of the French lads in the MD has withdrawn from the men's 25k list.
So that's bumped Jack PJ up into the main draw.
(And Quayle into qualis)

I know we don't normally do doubles on here but the early entries for the Bath 25k are up. 5 advanced places for doubles are available.
Ben Jones with Daniel Little
Jonathan Binding with Scott Duncan
Ewan Moore with James Mackinlay
Harry Wendelken with Oscar Weightman
Adam Jones with Toby Martin

On the womens draw, only 4 and only 3 with Brits.
Alicia Barnett with Olivia Nicholls
Eden Silva with Freya Christie
Ali Collins with Emily Appleton

Stephanie Wagner has dropped out so Beth is up to M4 and Freya is in the main draw by right.

No advanced entry from either Beth or Em in the doubles, but I would imagine either will get in easily when they have sorted out their partners. I was rather expecting Beth to play with Eden.

Interesting that Ali Collins is not (again) in the singles.

She's obviously either completely decided to only do doubles. Or is slightly injured and doesn't trust her body to do singles.

If the first, can't help wondering if it was something to do with being trained by Nik Slater for that time? (Never really thought that was a great idea.....). She's very young to be A1 a doubles player.

She's chosen to follow in Jamie's footsteps and only focus on doubles now. A Times article on her earlier this month explains her reasons https://archive.ph/Xpdxl
