Entries Week 2 - 10/01/22

Lots of opportunity here for a few players. A Who will grab them

I suspect the organisers may have an issue finding suitable wildcards, with all the drop outs and lower ranked players making the main draw.
At a guess the women's wildcards may be:
Lauryn Baptiste
Millie Bissett
Eva Shaw
AN OTHER

Anyone who fancies it may be able to sign in for qualifying...

Lauryn isn't a guess - as Lambda pointed out on page one, she's entitled to one for having won Pro League Week 9

Which is nice.

But, yes, really amusing to think you can pretty much just turn up for qualis and get a spot

Alice is now in the guaranteed MD lot, after another withdrawal. With Eliz and Jasmine now in those pretty safe seats, just outside, waiting for SEs.

Would be nice if Kylie or Alicia Dudeney or someone reappeared. US college might be dull at the moment????

Or maybe Gabi or Naomi fancies a little spin?

More seriously, Hollie Hutchinson will get one, I'd say - isn't she a team Bath player?

The standard at Bath is not just poor-it is woeful! Almost certainly the worst-ever in a European 25.

There are a total of four 25's taking place around the world next week. Here are a few rankings stats:

Highest ranked entrant: Tunisia- 226, USA -256, Brazil- 259, UK-274

Lowest direct acceptance: Tunisia-401, USA- 617, Brazil-747, UK-868

Qualifiers: Tunisia-All 41 have WTA rankings, USA- 24 are WTA ranked and the other three are ITF, Brazil- 7 are WTA ranked, 14 have ITF rankings and 3 have neither. UK- 12 are WTA ranked, 6 have ITF rankings and 8 have neither.

Maybe the Ons Jabeur effect is somewhat greater than the Emma Raducanu one!

Seriously is this really what the LTA intended when splitting the British four week circuit of 25's?

Makes it like a 15k but with 25k points and prize money

Seems perfect to me - costs the LTA a little more but they can afford it.

Im sure the LTA didnt intend this, but Im not convinced that splitting the tournaments is the problem here. I think its more likely that players from abroad dont want to come to Britain because of our abysmal handling on COVID.

I guess its a mixture of the splitting of them and also current travel restriction. Although the announcement today has changed this having a pcr before coming is probably costly and stops playing here and then somewhere else and coming back for another. Do Germany and France still have restrictions on those travelling from the UK maybe a others do. This probably plays a part. Will be interesting to see this is less Covid times.

Also I asssume EU residents have more paperwork to play here now so are more likely to stay in the EU. Anyway more ranking point opportunities if not necessarily the challange of the level For the Brit.

Is Peniston likely to make it into qualies?

I would be surprised if he's not in the MD

Andy has been seen training in Sydney, so likely to be a WC announcement or doubles or something.

Currently 8th Alt according to Darts rankings site. I guess if Novak withdraws then he is 7th however with his appeal not till Monday when the draw starts I assume that his withdrawal will end up being a LL place.

In Bath, Anna Popescu (and a few others) have now withdrawn too.

Putting GB's Amelie Brooks (born 2006) and Paulina Jurkowska (born 2005) into the qualis draw.

AND the born-2007 Zimbabwean (now British?) daughter of Wayne Black (and niece of Cara Black)

This was covered in detail in the junior thread a month or so back.

ADD: corrected to qualis - see the addict below

Amelie is in qualies, not the main draw, along with Paulina Jurkowska and Brooke Black. Emily A, Alice and Jasmine have now made the main draw, with Eliz and Andrew Lukosiute next inline to take the SE slots.

Sorry, brain f*rt while typing

Yes, I meant qualis.

But pretty amazing that a 14 year-old who has never played an adult event, and only every played two junior events, is now in the quali draw of a 25k as of right no

Looking at this again. There are 5 Aussies in the qualifying list and another one ahead of Ryan on the Alt list with 5 MD WC places not accounted for. So assuming these are taken by these players Ryan might be a more realistic 3rd Alt currently.
