Did you say your son/daughter had been through the system? Are they still playing tennis, at tour level, or college, or have they moved off in other directions?

Yes my son has played five years of D1 college tennis. Absolutely loves it there. Graduated in 2021 then stayed on for a Masters and will that finish this Semester. He will be coaching over the summer and then looking for a job outside of tennis.
College is an amazing opportunity for all of those who go and its been great to follow so many of the players that hes grown up competing against.

The best advice I can give for anyone thinking of going is to visit the colleges before you commit. Have a really good look around the campus, local area and talk to the current student athletes. My son had a really clear idea of where he wanted to go and after visiting completely changed his mind and committed to the one he thought he definitely didnt want to go to!! Never regretted it!!

Mens Championship first round wins yesterday for the Gamec0cks, Stanford, TCU and SanDiego and a loss for the Bears vs Florida State

South Carolina took the early lead with a pair of efficient doubles victories, beginning at the top of the lineup with top-ranked Toby Samuel and Connor Thomson posted a 6-2 win.
In singles, it was the second half of the lineup that went to work early with Lambling, Hoole and Lucas da Silva staking out early leads in the Nos. 4, 5 and 6 positions. Called clinch, so the Brits didnt get to finish their singles.

1. (10) Toby Samuel (SC) led Aissa Benchakroun (SCST) 7-5, 3-2 suspended
2. (16) Connor Thomson (SC) vs. Novak Novakovic (SCST) 2-6, 6-1, 1-1 suspended
3. Mikalai Bankou (SCST) led (116) James Story (SC) 7-5, 1-4 suspended

Baylor posted a loss 0-4 to #18 Florida State and had to content themselves with a tribune to Finn Bass

#18 Florida State jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after it won the doubles point. Maks Silagy and Barnaby Smiths 6-2 victory over Luc Koenig +1 gave FSU its first doubles win after their win on court No. 3.

#30 SanDiego - Doubles proved to be the most straight-forward part of the day, as the Toreros cruised to the opening point. Stian Klaassen and Oliver Tarvet secured the first break point of the day and cruised to a 6-2 victory.
Singles proved to be a slugfest, with seemingly endless swings of momentum in either direction.The Gauchos struck first, despite a comeback from Vasa that saw hold an early 4-1 advantage in the second set, to tie the match at 1-1. Tarvet would follow it up with a straight set victory to set up a photo finish on the remaining courts.

No. 2 TCU (Fearnley, Maxted, Pinnington ) blew by UT Arlington 4-0 on Friday on the Bartzen Varsity Courts in the first round. The Horned Frogs (23-2) advanced to the Round of 32 with the victory, where they will meet No. 19 Texas A&M (19-11) on Saturday in the Fort Worth Regional Final.

Thanks CD - I am hoping another college parent will take over, as I just wont have the same level of interest once the last of the the players we know move on. Also there seems to be fewer Brits signing to D1 colleges over the last few years ?? - coaches seem to be filling their rosters with grad students which has certainly added strength and depth at #4-6 for many of the teams.

The Sweet 16 is the catchy name for the regional semifinal round of the NCAA tournament.

After beginning with 64 teams just a few days ago, the field has now dwindled down to just 16 as we head towards Super Regional play in the 2023 NCAA Division I Mens Tennis Championships.

With many tightly contested matchups in the first two rounds, it was the top-seeded teams who excelled during the first rounds of play (sounds like a phrase straight from ChatGPT wink ) as the hosts and higher seeds account for 15 of the 16 teams in the Super Regional.

In total, the SEC leads all conferences with five teams represented in the field of 16, while the ACC and Pac 12 follow closely behind with three teams apiece.

This Super Regional round will be the final round played on campuses across the country. Teams who win this weekend will earn their spot into the NCAA National Finals in Lake Nona, Florida when a National Champion will be crowned.
