US College Signings and General College Chat 2022/23

This is just brilliant. There are now 5 British men in the top ten singles ranking which is brilliant. JoMo, Toby, Connor Thompson , Max Basing and Arthur Fery.

If they are all still there by May 23 then they will each get up to eight main draw wild cards into Challenger 50 and 75 tournaments (see link to ITA scheme). If you add in Jake Fearnley into the mix (who is ranked 21 and one place outside the access to eight challenger quali wild cards) you have six more British men playing challenger events in 2023.

For a fifth straight week, it is the TCU Horned Frogs who top the ITA Collegiate Tennis Team Rankings.  Brits - TCU: Jack Pinnington Jones, Jacob Fearnley, Lui Maxted and Luke Swan

Luke Swan being Katie Swan's brother?

yes, I would have missed him as says Wichita on the roster. Mazzy kindly pointed out smile

Collegians Paving Careers After College On ITF and ATP Challenger Tours

Brits Tom Hands (doubles), Arthur Fery and Dan Little in the mix.

In 2023, current and former collegians have been kickstarting their careers after college on the ITF Mens and Womens Tours as well as the ATP Challenger Tour, winning over 120 Titles so far in the 2023 calendar year. Doubles play on the ITF Mens and Womens World Tour has been exceptional for collegians so far in 2023, as 73 Titles have already been won by both current and former student-athletes.

Through programs such as the ATP Accelerator Program (mentioned by Newbie above), the ITA hopes to continue to shine a light and provide a pathway to all players who have aspirations to pursue professional careers after their time in college is complete.

It looks like Aleksandra Topalovic won't be turning pro after graduation.

She was a nice girl, from what I could see, and a decent-ish player. But not going pro is almost certainly a very smart decision....
Best of luck to her at pickle ball

Teams announced for 2023 NCAA Division I mens tennis championship

The NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Subcommittee has selected the 64 teams and 16 first- and second-round sites for the 2023 NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Championship. Per NCAA policy, the top 16 seeds are guaranteed to host if a bid was submitted and criteria are met, and matchups between conference opponents were avoided in the first two rounds of the championship.

First- and second-round competition takes place May 5-6 or 6-7 and features four teams playing in a single-elimination format. The winner of each site advances to super-regional competition May 12 or 13. Each super-regional site will feature two teams playing a single-elimination format. The super-regional winners advance to the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida, where the eight teams will compete for the national championship May 18-20.

Thirty-one conferences receive automatic qualification into the 2023 NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Championships.

TCU garnered the No. 2 overall seed on the strength of its second consecutive ITA Indoor National Championship and the Big 12 Championship. The Horned Frogs downed No. 1 overall seed Texas in both title triumphs. TCU concluded the regular season with a 22-2 overall record. The 22 regular season victories are the most the program has produced in a single season since 1989.

light or not, will follow them with interest! 3 out of 64 isnt shoddy though, as all countries are represented - 3 in the top 64 generally would be a success !!

The NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Subcommittee has selected the 64 singles players and 32 doubles teams that will compete in the 2023 NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Championships.

The singles and doubles competition will be conducted May 22-27 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando. Automatic qualification into the Division I singles championship is awarded to any conference with one or more eligible singles players ranked in the ITA Top 125 for eligible/entered singles players.  For conferences with more than one singles player within the ITA Top 125 eligible/entered singles players, the subcommittee applies the NCAA selection criteria to determine which student-athlete is the automatic qualifier from those conferences. All singles players must have a minimum of 13 started singles matches, with six matches in the spring, in order to be selected as an automatic qualifier or an at-large selection.

Automatic qualification: #5 Jo Monday (Tennessee, SEC), #3 Arthur Fery (Stanford, PAC12).  Dubs: #2 Jake Fearnley +1 (TCU), #1 Toby Samuel, Connor Thompson (S Carolina).

At large: Max Basing (Stanford), Jake Fearnley (TCU), Emile Hudd (Tennessee), Toby Samuel (S Carolina), Connor Thompson (S Carolina).
Dubs: Finn Murgett +1 (Auburn), Arthur Fertpy+1(Stanford) , #7 Jo Monday +1(Tennessee)

Alts: Jack Pinnington (TCU)
