Not sure Eva's match will start - they've just begun the third set in the match before hers. Unless there's a spare court, of course.

Court 13 has just finished - the only viable one if they wanted to squeeze it on today.

Scratch that - overlooked that Hibi-Osuigwe was also scheduled!

I know it's maybe not the same, and maybe the women will really go south, but the excellent results in the men's (and the very close scores even in three who lost) are the reason (or one of them) that leaving the three spaces in the wildcard allocations here so annoys me.

We are very lucky to have a grand slam. Grass is a funny surface. Those wildcards should have been used (for Kylie, for Mimi Xu, for Emily App, for Freya, for some other country's youngster if need be). The experience and the possibility to rise to the occasion are part of what tennis is all about. And there's no excuse for not fostering it at quali level.

Indeed, indeed.

I have my views about Slam MD WCs in general. But qualies, should have gone for it , giving additional players a chance for the reasons you have given and with probably added uncertainty in covid times.

Eva has been moved to Court 18 and is an early break down, but still in touch.

Surprised they are still playing, it's not very light where I am, must be significantly better in Roehampton

Eva broke service but then lost her own again.

I could only see one player at any one time from the Eikeri-Niculescu feed, but Shaw looked like she had good shots, but inconsistent.

Eva lost 2 & 2.

I'd hoped for a closer score. But I didn't see the match, so no idea about how she played. At any rate, it took about an hour, and certainly wasn't a whitewash.

So, good on her, she's only 16 (just), hoped she enjoyed it.

From the scores Eva seemed to be fighting right to the end. She saved several match points in the final game and earned herself three more break points but couldn't quite convert them.

From the stats

Eva hit more winners 18-12
but she had 33 unforced errors, which is more than half the 61 points Gorgodze won (compared with 8 from the Georgian).

I'd imagine she felt she had to up her level but it wasn't quite coming off. Hopefully she's got some good knowledge from this match on what she needs to improve on to be ready for the next level when that time comes.

Naiktha is first on court 12.

so with the mens we have 9 players in action. In Eastbourne we have 9 mens doubles, 2 womens and 1 mens singles. So 21 players across two tournies . Whew.
