I hate to say but I see zero wins from this lot, nowhere near as kind as
The mens have drawn.

Looking forward to how our British women get on. Katie Swan could have had a lot worse draws - a lot of half decent players like McNally and Rodionova in her section, but no-one she couldn't beat, if she is at her best, though I guess she would be underdog if she and McNally meet in the second round. I'm confident for Katie S in her first round match on Wednesday.

I can't wait to see how Matilda get on against Konjuh - tough, tough draw, but you never know.

I'm hopeful 2 or 3 of our players could come through the first round - I think Naiktha will be pretty happy with her draw, and I wouldn't rule out Tara to spring a surprise either. Eden hasn't been terribly lucky with her draw.

I would have thought the experienced Georgian, Gorgodze, would be a big favourite against  Eva Shaw - though Gorgodze is dropping down the rankings a bit these days from peaking 2 or 3 years ago. I have yet to see Shaw play though, so hoping against all odds that they will somehow stream that one and get to see the young Brit for the first time. Disappointed that no British women are scheduled on Court 11 - looks like the TV will mostly cover matches of little interest to most British viewers.

I don't think the draw is particularly bad for our women. Eva and Matilda are really just there for the experience at this point in their careers, and would be massive underdogs no matter who they played. Katie, Naiktha, and Tara can't really complain about their draws. Not saying they'll win, but this is Wimbledon qualifying, it shouldn't be easy. Eden's draw is tough though, to be fair

Tara plays Zarazua, not Talaba.

Sorry, copied the wrong line off the PDF, now corrected. Still reckon it's a winnable match though

We could see a few wins but equally all could lose. Tara and Eden are especially lucky to be there in my opinion so let's see what they can make of their luck. I think, with her grass court experience, Tara might actually stand a chance as I'm not sure I rate Zarazua especially.
Hard to see much joy for Matilda or Eva and who knows with Naiktha.

Katie S has nothing to fear really but will depend on how fit she is. Her match fitness must be quite low right now.

Copied over from Grachka:

"I don't see many wins from there, despite being relatively kind draws.

Matilda likely to be overpowered, but a good learning experience for her.
Naiktha should win that but of all our entrants may be most likely to suffer a baffling loss.
Friedsam is very strong and I don't see anything other than a win for her. Still recovering career from injury, but decent results in FO qualies and challengers recently so I think too good for Eden.
Swan I think has a good chance if she's playing well - but no idea given how little she's been able to play. Cabrera beat Burrage in Nottingham and took a set from Van Uytvanck so can play.
Tara has a decent shot but still the underdog.
Good draw for Eva which gives a chance, but still massive underdog given the leap in level and tiny professional experience.
Hope to be proved wrong!"

Copied over from Spireman:

"I do wonder if Eva may cause an upset...she has played a lot of grass court matches recently, admittedly lower level, in winning both u16 and u18 nationals. Has decent game for grass, playing clay courter, and eva went quite close against storm sanders in nottingham q1 a week ago. Of course it may just show the gap between unranked 16 year old and 200 something in world, but being on grass will surely help."

Copied over from me:

"Go, Eva !
Gorgodze seems to be a clay courter who's done nothing of any note recently???
Zarazua played well at Notts so that's quite tough.
Jani plays mainly on clay too, so that's a good draw for Naithka
Jodie should have beaten Lizette so no reason Katie Swan can't

ADD: yep, gameover - that's a slamdunk, really, you'd think (for Konjuh)"

Had Katie been playing recently she would have to be the strong favourite in that match, but having been out for the past few weeks where she currently is is an unknown quantity.

Tara leads the H2H 1-0, but that came at the beginning of Zarazua's career so not too much can be gleamed from that.
2015 Innisbrook, FL (USA) 25K Clay 6-0 7-6(11)
Zarazua did reach the 100K SF last week, albeit by virtue of 2 retirements.

Gorgodze's only matches on grass appear to be the 2019 Wimbledon qualies, defeating Anna Bondar in 2 tie-break sets 7-6(5) 7-6(4) before losing to Arantxa Rus 3 & 3 in the 2nd qualifying round. Eva's match with Gorgodze could be closer then most (outside this forum) expect.

Jani is there for the taking but I've not seen anything from Naiktha's results for a while to give me confidence.

Unlike the boys, all our players are outsiders with the bookies.

Matilda v (q23) Konjuh - 11 v 1.05
Bains v Jani - 2 v 1.72
Eden v (q5) Friedsam - 6 v 1.12
Swan v Cabrera - 2.25 v 1.57
Tara v (q27) Zarazua - 3.75 v 1.25
Eva v Gorgodze - 3.75 v 1.25

Tara and Eva might be worth a punt at those odds, the rest nah

I'm haven't got the bottle to put my money where my mouth is, but I am surprised at odds for Katie S and Tara, and intrigued by how many people think Eva has a chance: I can't wait to see how it pans out for Eva - Red Squirrel appears to be right that Gogordze has only ever played 2 matches on grass, so that is a big plus for Eva, obviously.
