Week 25 - Wimbledon - London (grass) - women's qualifying

As does Heather face a qualifier, but her second round is Kvitova/Stephens. So I can't see her getting to the second week unfortunately. Same with Katie who would play Sabalenka.

Real shame for Harriet getting Mertens, can't see a win there and she's defending third round points.

Jodie against Davis is winnable, but Jodie needs to sort her head out.

I think we've a chance for a few wins but I can't see anyone lasting until the weekend. Jo could beat Barty if she really finds some of her old magic but I can also see her going out in round 1!

Qualifiers are tricky, there are plenty of 60-105 players you'd probably pick ahead of someone 150 who's come through 3 rounds on grass. But can't really complain about how they've landed. All have a shot.

I wouldn't write her off, Mertens hasn't got past her 1st match* in singles this year, she should beat Harriet but there were far worse draws in there for Harriet. If she finds her A game she is definitely in with a shout

*To clarify on grass

Whilst Mertens has lost a number of matches in R1, your statement is sadly incorrect.

Mertens lost in R3 for RG, retired at  Madrid QF, lost the final at Instanbul, lost in the R3 in Miami (couldn't be bothered to list the rest). Her form hasn't been great but nor is it as bad as "hasn't got past R1 this year in singles"

No indication that the BBC are covering Katie's match in a minute.

It is raining on the south coast - not sure what it is doing at Wimbledon, but they normally get our weather an hour later, so not good news.

No play before 11:30. Looks like it might be online only coverage today while we get badgers on the RB instead.

Jo has a tricky opener. Would love Jodie to win but I suspect we will see the same old story play out again. If Katie S qualifies seems a dead cert she will draw one of the Brits.

I did edit if you didn't see to clarify that point which still stands, on grass

I didn't see your edit, no. But it's hard when there are minimal grass tournaments and nobody has played on it since 2019. Harriet has only won 1 singles match herself on grass, lost all of her doubles.

Everyone has forgotten about Samantha Murray Sharan who has drawn Cirstea.

With Halep pulling out does that mean Serenas half will play on Tuesday and she will open play on centre court as the runner up?

Whilst play at Roehampton has been delayed until 11:30, the courts are uncovered and the line judges, umpire and ball boys/girls are out. Play about to start, and coverage on BBC website (and elsewhere)

I do remember Sam being interviewed as she was the only player to have gotten to r2 that year, and she said that it was partly because she'd been through qualies that it helped her.
