Getting used to new format, no qfs in mens, so semis are hodkin v hussey and Cox v Harris. Not sure how Billy got there, he was group runner up to Ben Jones, presumably Ben Jones pulled out?
Billy could well lead the overall league once this week is done.
The league table isn't completely correct on the website. It shows Billy got 6 points but he got 7. 3 points for each straight set win and then a point for the loss in the MTB to Ben Jones. Ben Jones also got 7 points 1 straight set win and 2 MTB wins. So if the positional tiebreaker isn't h2h then Billy could have finished top. My guess is it might be done on straight set wins? or set difference +5 for Billy and only +4 for Ben Jones.
However I was wrong Ben did in fact finish top but withdrew due to illness according to the commentator Abigail Johnson on twitter.
ah-ha. So presumably the tiebreaker at the top must either be H2H between the two tied players (Ben beat Billy) or matches won (3-2 for Ben)? But either way, illness trumps that and Billy gets through!!
You can tell my interest has deteriorated as I didn't realise it was now behind a (free) sign up initiative - has anyone registered for it on here?
Emma Wilson came from 2-6 down in the MTB against Alice to take the final 8 points and make the final, and will play the winner of Emily Ap vs Sonay which will start once the current men's match has finished.
I haven't followed this at all this week but just tuned in to watch Sonay destroy Emily 6-0 in the fist set. How come I'm never come across her before? Has she played any matches on the tour?
Plus a couple at Roehampton just before that. Did enough in Heraklion to get an ITF ranking, currently 1119, although when the November 2019 points eventually drop off she will lose it.
Sonay (now 19) was also playing junior ITF in 2019 winning a Grade 2 in Lithuania as well as a couple of Grade 4s. Doesn't seem to have played in 2020/1 till now unless she has been on the UK tour.
No WTA singles ranking as she only has two counters, but got 18 doubles points from a 25K ar Roehamptonso has a doubles ranking. All points will be halved by the end of year unless the WTA change their minds again. She was down to play a Bulgarian 15k in week 36 but not on the draw sheets.
I wrote quite a lot about Sonay in the junior threads a couple of years back. Saw her at Roehampton in 2019. And Junior Wimbly qualis in 2018.
Very 'out of left field' player. A little fave. Quite a different vision of the game.
I was thrilled to see her going to give Bulgaria a try...... and then she withdrew :(
Which was a little weird as her Youtube interview last year says she was offered a lot of places in US colleges but wasn't interested, she wants to go pro straight off - but doesn't seem to have played much.....
