Week 32 - UK Pro Series Classic Week- St George's Hill, Weybridge - (Hard)

Brilliant from Emma, 6-0 6-3. Second set was far more competitive and Emma was fighting to hold in the early games. It stayed on serve until 4-3*, and Emma hit a fantastic backhand down the line at 30-15*, and then broke on the next point.

Quite fiesty between them, and a few disputed calls, but a bit of a statement there.

The ITF used to do 4 week series about 10-15 years ago didn't they? I remember some of players taking part in them in Mexico in particular. It was like 3 weeks of 5ks and a final 15k week or something?

The money Naomi has won should cover a fair whack of expenses once the tour gets back up and running.

They did, the 3 weeks had points to reach week 4, usually e Weeks of 32 draws and top 24 or 16 made masters week. ATP or wta points where allocated after masters week based on overall satellite circuit points total.

The reason they stopped was countries and players not committing to 4 weeks consecutively from a cost and time perspective,  but times are different now and needs must...

Yes, the prize money is huge this week for players at this level. As a reminder it goes 20k,15k,10k, 7.5k, with 5th place on 6.5k, down to nothing for last place.

The last place in the Classic Week gets $3k.

Thought so, just no appearance money.

So how much will Anton Matusevich earn in mens, he played 3 rounds, presumably gets something for that?

Wow, stunning win from a score perspective

There is no appearance money for any of the players in Classic Week, they've increased the prize money significantly. The breakdown was provided in the other thread I think by someone.
Nothing specific was mentioned about players that withdraw and what they get paid, maybe it'll be dealt with on a case by case basis by the organisers. May be they'll consider how many matches were played before withdrawing etc.
In the preceding weeks, the alternates got the appearance money of $1k if they were called to play - but not sure what the withdrawing players get.

The alts this week also get 1k for being an alt, according to the table on page 1 of this thread.

I really hope we get Emma vs Jodie tomorrow as explained on the previous page, but I'm interested to see how Eden matches up to Jodie next. They've not played this summer, so nothing to gauge there, and Eden has been competitive in all her matches at SGH (well all apart from the final 2 sets of her match with Freya the other day...), she won all 10 of her completed SGH matches coming into this week, and both defeats thus far have been via a MTB (including vs Harriet), so if she can nick at least one of the traditional sets, then who know.

Noted , still unsure what the withdrawing player gets. It would actually be simple if say the alternate came in on the last day , they could potentially give  the withdrawing player $1k short of what was due them initially? However if a player withdraws mid-week like Anton did,  and the alternate ends up playing a couple of matches and finishes 4th or 5th in the group , proceeds to play-offs,  then the alternate should be entitled to more than $1k appearance money I would think?

Jodie's serve is very strong for her height.

Ah, Eden retires at 2-6 0-1*, commentators thought it was more illness than injury, so it will be Emma vs Jodie again tomorrow, but a bit of an anti climax there. Hope Eden is OK and can play her 3rd - 4th with Harriet tomorrow, but if not, I assume she should still receive her 4th place prize money?

Eden definitely looked flat compared to usual; she was given some kind of medication at the MTO. Shame, could have been a good match :(

Emily Arb wins 6-2 0-0 ret. I do feel Eliz has played rather a lot recently, five weeks out of six, so I hope she is OK.

I turned it on and it was either 3 or 4-0, so I ended up switching to Lexington instead, but Eliz did have one of her thighs strapped. Not sure if she'll turn up tomorrow if she doesn't have to, but yes, one of a fair few who could do with a good rest. Nadia will be playing her 35th match in 35 days tomorrow (if Eliz or an alt turns up), but she's still on for the BT on Friday - or she was at least when I checked yesterday.
