So impressed with Paul. He must be really under ranked now given the level he's playing at. Really well done and well done to the crowd who really cheered him through.

Well done Paul. Monteiro was coming back at him in that 3rd set but he found a way to hold and take it. I hope he gets a WC for Wimbers!

Paul Jubb-superb. First time I have seen him play. Very impressed.

It will be bitterly disappointing if he doesn't get one - he ticks just about every box - young, NCAA winner which would have been enough in other slams, and he has been competitive in all 5 pro matches over the past couple of weeks, winning 3 of them and took out someone today who's ranking is on the fringes of getting into Wimbledon directly. Add in the fact there's hardly any other deserving Brits and the chances are WCs will be handed back, so it's not as if he is jumping the queue. He surely has to get one.

Napolitano was on top for all the bit I saw(from 2-2 in second set). Liam had to work very hard for every point.

Congrats to Paul, very impressive indeed. And up to LR 471. Just 1pt behind Lloyd, and now only one win (5 pts+) behind Alex Ward in that GB #10 position...

Are we getting to the point where we start saying that we hope the media don't hype Paul up too much as the next big thing ? That was a truly superb performance from him. But what impresses me just as much as his tennis, is his overall demeanour and level headedness.

Great win today Paul. Onwards and upwards.

Super second set against a guy ranked ATP 104

Saw Monteiro play Evo a couple of years back, albeit on the clay.  The guy can play.

Yeah, and from the livestream, he looks pretty comfortable on grass too.

Generates a lot of power, and moves well

He certainly does generate a lot of power, particularly on the forehand side.  My comment in my match report when he played Evo in Barcelona (Apr 2017) was: "He has very little subtlety to his game and hits the ball very hard".

I am sure he has matured and improved, but he certainly liked to go for his shots even back then.

He's a bit luckier than, say, Andy was at the same age because there are more other decent youngish male players.  Hopefully that'll take some of the heat off him. Also he can go back to college in the autumn and have a break from the hype! But as you say he seems down to earth and has some good people around him, which should help.

The full SP:

L32:  (WC) Paul Jubb WR 579 defeated (8) Thiago Monteiro (BRA) WR 104 by 4-6 6-3 6-2  ban-woohoo.gif

10 precious ranking points in the bag & 2,180 (if he's allowed to claim them).  Novak (9) or Kubler in the last 16.  That match has just got under way.
