While the significance of the match is clear for Katie, especially with the remaining field opportunity does knock for our previous #2 to get some further much needed wins and momentum.
Indeed if she were to go all the way and win the title Heather would be back to not far behind Katie in ranking points, 615 to 604. And be so good if both could be into / back into the top 100 in the near future.
This match provides the perfect opportunity for Katie to get her top 100 ranking and I'll be absolutely delighted if (or when) she does. Having said that, after the torrid time Heather's had, if she could find a way to beat Katie I'd be over the moon as it would such a huge confidence boost for her. If pushed to make a choice I'd probably go for Hev as she needs it more (Katie will be fine whatever happens here), but a lovely win win situation for British tennis fans. I just wish it was streamed so we could watch it.
I generally prefer Katie but I think I'm rooting for Her today given the year she has had and gas finally put together back to back wins. As the 5th seed, KB has achieved par by reaching the QFs (and would have been in line to face the 3rd seed later) and I'm sure that top 100 ranking will happen soon, if not today - if this was a one time only thing then it would obviously be very disappointing.
If, hypothetically, they met in FQR of US Open quals next week then I would want Katie to win since Hev has played in 29 of the last 30 slam main draws while this would be Katie's first outside of a Wimbledon wildcard.
On balance I would rather Hev won. Katie will get to the top 100 sooner or later, and as she is already assured of a top seed ranking for the USO qualifying she will have a great opportunity to pick up the points she needs next week (although she will have to wait for them to go on).
Hev needs the win more for her confidence and to start getting some points. She has very little to defend for the rest of 2018 so this could be the start of a comeback?????
Are the seedings for USO qualifying done on next weeks rankings? If so another reason for Hev to win as if she can get into the top seedings then no chance of her facing Katie!
Katie does have 30 US Open FQR points coming off from last year so whether even the extra 10 she would get if she qualified this time would be enough in themselves for top 100 is very uncertain. But being seeded to qualify will yes help in that regard. She also has 28 points coming off later in September. Indeed hope she gets there relatively soon for hanging outside can effect some people though the way she's risen she's not really been hanging outside until now. And with relatively little to defend post September or indeed in the first few months of next year, if not today surely indeed it will come before too long.
Still would be good for her to just smash through that mark but pity it's Hev on the other side of the net on the first occasion that she has a match to do so.
I would certainly imagine that it will be this coming Monday's seedings that are used for USOQ seedings with the draw coming out later so potential for Hev to join Katie as a top seed.

Incidentally, with Anisimova losing 6-4 6-4 to Svitolina in the Cincinnati L16 ( still very good week for the still just 16 yo ), Katie is now next playing for a "Tara" inside the top 100 spot, ie WR 99.

Must be getting confused Indy Tara has never been a top 100 player I think you are thinking of Mel South who was briefly ranked 99 and then fell back down the rankings

No, though I could maybe have more referenced my point. I hark back to when Tara was playing to get into the top 200 and some quite amusing twitter exchanges involving her as to whether WR 199 or WR 200 was what constituted being inside the top 200. Anyway she was very pleased when her ranking first started with a "1". It still gets a reference occasionally when players are on a hundred borderline.

I knew this would coe up
I've spent 10 minutes on the useles Activeboard search page trying to locate the source thread for a "Tara" for those that don't rememeber it, but to no avail.... yet.

Cheers, it certainly originated on twitter and I am sure involved Tara herself and Steven making good use of his well known diplomacy skills. But word spread to the forum. I haven't myself tried a search.

Yes, that was the prompt. I was looking for the good-natured, but heated forum discussion between, I think, steven and ISF, amongst others: still to no avail.
