Glad to see a win for Freya, much though I love Fran's game. Concur with everyone above though - at Wimbledon, Freya was slicing and chopping way too much on the forehand for no obvious reason. It struck me as nervousness at the time - perhaps worried about overhitting. But can't help but think it needs to be used more judiciously, especially when her 'normal' groundstrokes are good.
Miffed I missed the Freya/Francesca match
Well done Freya. May the Boulter-Dart-Taylor vanguard drag others upwards in their wake in belief that they too can compete at higher and higher levels as readily if they follow the example being set for them; Freya very much in that group of hopeful benficiaries.
Generally a disappointing returnfrom Woking this week, all going essentially as expected, and little sign of carrying promise suggested elsewhere back home.
Freya is the only non seed to make the quarters. All bar 7th seed Marcinkevica (who Fran disposed of) made it through.
I'd like Smitkova to win if Freya doesn't, she's #1 seed and probably has the most talent of the field but she seems a nice girl as well. Had a conversation with her at Ilkley the other month and she just about understood my accent . She's won 2 events in the UK in 2018 so clearly enjoys playing here. I see her match with Ozgen is due the same time as Freya's (10.30am) - would have preferred Freya to have been on first and if Freya won then I'd have probably wanted Ozgen to win as well to probably make it an easier semi final for Freya.
