I spoke too soon 0-4* in the third, and only 2 points
Feeling relieved you posted first addict. I also posted how well Laura was doing at Surbiton, just before it fell apart and was feeling a bit of a jinx!
I'm afraid Katy needs to improve her serve if she's going to advance up the rankings. The difference in service speed seemed to be quite a lot, and she didn't have enough penetration, except for the wide serve to the backhand.
Also Chang's forehand was by far the stronger, and earned quite a few points. But still a good effort, and certainly was holding her own in the second set and unfortunate with quite a few of the 12 break points she had.
I agree Chang was able to get a few cheap points that got her out of trouble from her serve, even though Katy eventually won that second set. I didn't see the third set but it sounds from what you're saying her serve is an issue.

Yes but actually Katy's serve, I think, has got a lot better. Trouble is it used to be REALLY poor. And I don't think it's ever going to be strong. But she's obviously been working hard on it and making progress so at least that's a good sign.

Actually I thought the rest of her game had improved quite a lot since I saw her at Sutton last August, but the serve looked about the same !

It's great, this board - vive la difference, and all that !
And bravo to Gabi.
Retirement or not, it's still an excellent victory.
