Presumbly Birmingham qualies starting tomorrow has something (everything) to do with it.

Naomi wins 6-3, 6-4, playing some very good tennis.

Naomi looking very good today, I didn't think the result was ever in doubt and she could have won by a bigger margin with a few less errors.

Didn't Naomi play an absolute cracking last service game? (The rest wasn't so shabby either )

I do so hope her Gran was there.

It obviously means a big deal to Naomi, especially this year.

Well done to her !

I think that may knock the Katies' ranking points back a round so 25 rather than 50 from what I've observed re doubles withdrawals. If that is a WTA policy probably in general quite a good one.

Gabi slots in between Harriet and Katy D in the singles rankings. GB #7 on 167 points, #8 163 and #9 161. Though as CD was saying earlier they have taken rather different routes over the last few months to for now reach pretty much the same place in the rankings, a little inside the top 300.

Is it? Encourages players to play and tank rather than just withdraw.

I'm not sure, just I saw a pattern in a few withdrawals and the points they ended up with, but I didn't look further into it. So we shall see re the Katies. I see your point re tanking if they still have time to appear.

Maybe someone knows more ?

My is it? was a reply to your assertion that the rule is a good idea, not that that's the rule.

More issues with Doubles, it's a recurring theme this week it seems.

No idea what happened with the Katie's.They were there watching Gabi with Beechy, Felgate and Bates.
Gabi played well, but Krunic got everything back and frustrated Gabi. Also she kept playing terrific drop shots from the back of the court, which Gabi had no answer to.
Naomi played really well.Chang was very inconsistent.
The last match was an absolute belter - still expect the Belarusian to come through and win the lot.

What did you think of the 16 year-old Canadian supserstar, paulisi?

(and tx for the reports).

 She is 17 now...

Big game, good mover, returns were excellent. Gave the Belarusian a really tough game. If she plays Junior Wimbledon, she will win it.

Bianca has withdrawn from Junior Wimbledon, leaving Kayla Day as the highest ranked WTA player by a long way. Katie S  has entered courtesy of her WTA ranking

Anyone know who is looking after Naomi on the coaching side? She was hitting with Maria Sanchez this week, but I think Serena Nash was drafted in after Maria exited the tournament. A smallish lady with blonde streaks and a ponytail seemed to be the boss and known to a lot of the locals.
