Getting the chance to beat Goffin before the DC final must of added some extra motivation.
I totally agree. Not sure how Andy feels but surely this is a great chance to land a real psychological blow before the final and I am hoping to see some baked goods in the scoreline.
Murray is all over Goffin like a rash! 6-1 in 24 minutes, so you get your wish so far emptyvessel, one breadstick for Mr Goffin
Goffin must have known he was likely to loose badly today - I wonder if he considered letting Andy beat him more easily rather than playing his best just to accentuate any differences once they get on clay and lull Murray into a false sense of security. I guess its unlikely but he had little to gain unless Murray was below his best today and it must have been apparent that he wasnt after loosing 12 of the first 13 points.
www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b06qm3vr live radio coverage of the Goffin match in case anyone else is like me and lacks the relevant channel to watch it etc. Wish I'd realised they were covering it while it was actually live!
L16: (2) Andy Murray WR 3 thrashed (16) David Goffin (BEL) WR 16 by 1 & 0
*****
QF: (10) Richard Gasquet (FRA) WR 9 (CH = 7 in July 2007) vs (2) Andy Murray WR 3
Andy leads the head-to-head by 6-3 (a figure which doesn't take account of one walkover apiece). Gasquet hasn't beaten Andy since a three-set encounter in the last 16 of the Rome Masters in 2012.
I have seen Goffin play much better than that - but after the first blitz he seemed to lose heart and was making unforced errors galore. Looked like a man without a plan. Andy did play very well and very aggressively.
