Super 4 points to fight back from 40-0 and eventually get the break after TM's horror backhand drive volley. Perhaps the first time in the match that Katie has deployed her weapons for more than a single shot at a time. Forehand was especially poor in the opening set, missing numerous straight-forward shots.

Katie off court with a medical timeout. She has been flexing her leg for some time.

Katie returns with strapping on the top of her right leg.

Katie recovered from 15-40 and court invasion by a flock of birds to 40-40 only to lose it. Back on service.
Katie 3-2*

Katie saved one match point with an angled drop shot and then a 2nd after a net cord. Katie holds, now is there anything left in the tank?
Katie 4-5*

Katie 15-0*
Katie 30-0* after a good forehand
Katie 30-15* netted backhand
Katie 30-30* netted return of service
Katie 30-40* MP long return of serve

Katie loses 1-6 4-6

That's a pity, Katie just seemed to be getting on top when she went off for treatment.

Showed glimpses of her talent. Forehand much better in the 2nd set. Serve never really turned up; too often directed right into TM's hitting zone. After the injury time-out the games went very quickly until she saved a couple of mps.

commiserations for Katie.

she looked nervous at the start and her opponent much more relaxed and able to play good tennis. Katie tried hard and at times seemed to find her game and play well but maybe too many matches in so few days. Obviously upset at the end and keeping the tears down but well I hope she is able to have a good cry, I'm sure it will help.

Congratulations to Katie on doing so well this tournament and your time will come, I'm sure.

Ah, real pity about the injury issue.

In spite of the first set score of 1-6, all but one of the first 10 games had both players getting to at least 30 and Katie was right back in it at 3-0* in the second set.

At 1-6 3-0*, total points were 35-41

In the last 7 games ( split 1-6 ), total points were 16-30, leaving a final score of :

1-6 4-6 ( 51-71 )

It was really returning serve that latterly Katie didn't get much of a look-in, although she did go 30-0 up against the serve at 4-5*, having saved two match points in her proceeding service game, but lost the next 4 points and the match.

Her own service games were tight throughout, in all 8 both players got to at least 30, 6 went to deuce and she faced at least one BP in 7 of the 8 games, in the end splitting her service games 4-4, points 34-34 ( 17-37 on return ).

Overall BPs won were 1/1 for Katie, 4/12 against.

So although having been under more consistent pressure, she was looking close to getting back on terms at 3-0* in the second set, but then the injury time-out and it went away from her.

( all gleaned from LS and reading about the injury time-out and strapping so very much a statistical analysis ! )

Overall, very well done Katie on a tremendous week.

Well done indeed to Ms Swan on the week - a pity that she was injured ... but there are many Grand Slams left for her to contest!

For those who, like me, woke up just too late to see her, the first set of the boys final (also live streamed by the AO and now in its second set) is very high quality: power v speed.
