Girls: 2015 Australian Open, hard - Grade A (Week 4)

The draw for the Australian Open places Katie Swan in the same section as top seed Shilin Xu, but she has a decent draw in the opening round (Jade Lewis did scalp a top 50 player last week though). Maia Lumsden faces the tricky prospect of home hope Kimberly Birrell, a semi-finalist here last year and finalist in the G1 warm-up last week. Katie is first up on court 11 whilst Emily is third on court 10

R1 (L64)

(Q) Jade Lewis (NZL) v (14) Katie Swan

Chihiro Muramatsu (JPN) v Emily Arbuthnott

(6) Kimberly Birrell (AUS) v Maia Lumsden

Those are, broadly speaking, pretty rotten draws for our two strongest players. Hope that the young women can overcome them.

From [2-6] down in the MTB, Emily A's team staged a spirited comeback to win their doubles, 7-6(3) 2-6 [10-8]
They next face the imposing duo of Hon/Teichmann [5]

Good result and both wins will improve on her ranking points and potentially move her up the junior rankings again.
