RE: Week 37 - Challenger ($75,000): Istanbul, Turkey (hard)

Great win to come back to! I saw it go to 6-6 in the third on the score app when I had a second but wasn't sure how it would end up.

Now that James has wiped out the top seed he gets a shot at Mannarino and surely there must only be confidence in James' mind right now.

As Ross has now announced his retirement from the game, I wonder if Fleming and Marray may stay together?

They could do worse!

SF:  (1) Colin Fleming & Jonny Marray CR 158 (67+91) defeated (4) Marcus Daniell & Divij Sharan (NZL/IND) CR 294 (170+124) by 2 & 3

******

Final:  (1) Colin Fleming & Jonny Marray CR 158 (67+91) vs Jordan Kerr & Fabrice Martin (AUS/FRA) CR 328 (163+165)

The Franco-Aussie pairing has been stringing together some decent results of late (Kerr is a former playing partner of Ross's, if memory serves), so they could prove a bit of a handful.

Memory does serve. Looking back through his records, he's also a former playing partner of Jamie Delgado, Jamie Murray and (to a lesser degree) Ken Skupski. Almost qualifies for honorary British citizeship, I'd think!

Fantastic improvement in James performances, really pleased for him now that he is bringing Davis cup level performances to his own regular season play. Perhaps it is related to the fact that he used to only perform really well when others were depending on him.

If anyone has his ear, Just wanted to relay the fact that I am totally depending on him this weekend for any sort of enjoyment and Danny Wellbeck will definitely be watching on livestream any chance of a decent Arsenal performance at City is really down to James sorting out his SF in straight sets. Should do the trick!

What is good is the consistency he's achieving across a number of tournaments and producing the odd excellent result along the way, like yesterday's. It's clear he's now closing out matches better rather than stumble from a winning position. Is this down to his coaching change? Better physical preparation?

I think James has always prepared well in all aspects.  I think the change is down to actually having a full time coach, as opposed to a coaching change.  My understanding was that although the LTA were happy for him to use coaching at the NTC, they did not feel him a suitable candidate for the support of a travelling coach.  The current coach is paid from James' own funds.

Thanks for that. Assuming full responsibility for yourself appears to be working in his case.

Is this a travelling coach arrangement, with an LTA coach providing training support at the NTC during non-competition periods?

Nice to see Fleming-Marray make the doubles final too.

Anyway, do folk think the LTA is made of money when they've already got folk like Greg to pay and anyway James is so old.

Great to see such consistency by James. He has shown he can put in really far above average performances, but I always thought a lack of consistency would keep him out of the top 100. Would be great to be wrong.

A couple of sloppy early points, but a good hold. If James serves a high percentage of first serves he will win.

James breaks straight away - and then very tamely hands it back.

Seemingly quite windy . .

Not getting many first serves in. Broken twice.
