RE: Week 37 - Challenger ($75,000): Istanbul, Turkey (hard)

James really struggling. Every time he comes to the net he gets passed, his drop shots are hitting the net and when he tries to force from the back of the court, he makes a lot of errors.

Completely agree. Not a great set from either player, but Mannarino, overall, was pretty comfortable there . . .

45% first serves is not going to win many matches.

That didn't last too long. Enough time for James to watch his beloved Arsenal....

It may be only a Challenger, but at long last another title for Colin & Jonny:

Final:  (1) Colin Fleming & Jonny Marray CR 158 (67+91) defeated Jordan Kerr & Fabrice Martin (AUS/FRA) CR 328 (163+165) by 6-4 2-6 [10-8]

s ! biggrin

Bit disappointing re James but he's had a decent week.

Wonder why he hasn't entered next week in Izmir? Lots of points on offer and relatively weak field. Perhaps he'll pop up somewhere else.

Looks like he is off to play in the asian ATPs, he is a direct entry into the qualifying draw for the Tokyo 500 so I guess he will play one of the 250s in the week before as well.

Shame, like goldenboy says, I'd have liked to see him stay in Turkey

As he made semi, he could claim an SE

Not sure that's correct. Firstly he needs to be entered somewhere in the first place to claim an SE. It would then allow him to skip qualifying and claim a place in the main draw. Also, you can't claim an SE if you would have made the main draw directly.

James received a wildcard to the Vancouver Challenger even though he hadn't entered originally as he had entered an ATP event and qualified for an SE under this exemption -

"EXCEPTION: A player who has entered and been accepted into the qualifying draw of an ATP World Tour 500 or ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournament and has been withdrawn because he is still competing, will be added to the last position on the special exempt list of a ATP Challenger Tour tournament scheduled for the next week, even though he would have been a direct acceptance, had he entered the Challenger."

James rises 10 places to a new career high of 121 today after reaching the semis here.

That means he rises from 8th to 6th= in the 21st century GB ATP career highs list, level with Jamie Delgado, edging above Evo:

2 Andy Murray
4 Tim Henman
24 Greg Rusedski (13 if you count 2000 as being in the 21st century; overall career high 4)
94 Martin Lee
108 Alex Bogdanovic
121 Jamie Delgado
121 James Ward
123 Dan Evans
