There already appear to be only two 2001s ahead of Jack in the rankings, a Taiwanese born 08/08/01 at JWR 74 and a Korean born 18/01/01 at JWR 94. There is certainly noone younger than Jack higher in the rankings.

Such early days still and so many different stories that that specific fact, while good to see, is rather less an issue than the important point that he himself certainly appears to be continuing to improve.

I'd be interested to see how high Jodie and Emily can get up the rankings. I guess it depends on which players in the top 15 are playing the junior circuit this year. I'll guess we can work it out from the junior Aussie Open entries

To answer my own question only Masarova of all the higher ranked players are at Melbourne. Realistically, if the other girls have given up juniors no reason why we cannot have 2 in the top 5.

Emily has quite a few points to defend at the end of Jan and Feb when she had that great run in South America. Jodie's points are well spread out.

Certainly the girls 'can' rise high in the junior rankings. But I suspect that it will not be any overriding aim, but come if it does from a few major successes.

As discussed elsewhere, while what's best certainly varies from player to player many do feel that the concentration this year has to be seniors with juniors restricted to at most the Slams and maybe say odd warm up Grade 1s.

Only 6 of the current girls top 20 are 1999s, many look to be on increasingly resticted junior diets. Indeed as pointed out quite a number are not even at the Aussie Open. The girls can still of course garner huge points from junior Slams alone so we shall see, and if that suits their individual development fair enough.

Junior rankings are a bit strange, particularly for the girls, in that they the top girls are moving away from juniors as they reach their potentially top junior years, so for the 17 to 18 yos not meaningless rankings, but very mixed up.

What younger juniors such as Holly Fischer and Jack Draper do in ranking terms is in some ways easier to compare and look at comparatively and historically, though still players schedules will vary.

Holly Fisher has only one younger girl ahead of her in the rankings.

Again, I question the wisdom and the validity of Jodie and Emily continuing to play Js, when they could opt for a full adult programme this year, as most of their foreign 17yo competitors, and Katie Swan, already have.

And Jack Draper no younger boys ahead of him. Yes, on balance for the 1999 girls ( subject to one size doesn't fit everybody ) I'm with you, wimdledont.

Jodie must be one of the most talented players out there without a senior ranking. I know that she has had injury interruptions, but time to get that well sorted. Who knows where she might then get even this year ( I think someone considered her for their predictions top 10 ). Get playing them seniors ...

Yes, I seriously toyed with putting Jodie in at 10th, as a 'joker' prediction, in the 'unlikely but definitely possible' category, and no one else would have her (it worked for Freya, let me down for JWH)
After seeing Laura last night, though, I feel I could have put Holly Fischer in and I'd be just as well off..... :::(((
But, seriously, yes, it'll be very interesting to see where Jodie is this year - I am very, very hopeful.....

Ali Collins also dropping to JWR 101 from last week at JWR 126 and after playing a recent G1 event may push her into the late 90's into the Top 100, this is Ali's CHC.
Fran Jones also down at JWR 80 which is her CHC.

Jodie, Emily and Ali all in main draw/qualies for Australian Open 2017.

As the year progresses I think we'll see an improvement in both Francesca and Ali's JWR's. Jodie and Em, I think we will see slight movement.

My listing, tennischamp, has Ali at 103 last week, not 126, so up 2 this week, and not from playing (which is why I didn't put her in)

Interesting to note Nel Miller's, Feb 2000 (JR 245), performance in reaching the finals of last weeks British tour event, loosing in 3 very competitive sets to Manisha in the SF who then went on to win the final with ease.

Sean Hodgkin, Oct 1998 (so just out of juniors and two ITF junior tournaments ever!) has also had quite a run in British tour events over Christmas.

Not having seen much of the British tour events until recently, and thank you to London tennis tube for remedying that, I can see it providing a really competitive alternative to the Aussie junior slam. The cost of preparing for and traveling to the later must be enormous, perhaps better to keep your powder dry and blow it later on a job lot of RG, Wimbledon and the US Open at a similar cost!

Who said there was no depth in the boy's game - 6 in the top 100 and potentially more to come - future may be rosy soon if they don't all go off to US college.
