Yep, Jonny has retired. Such a shame . . ..

Well, there's the reason for the scoreline. Very sorry for Mr O'Mara; hope it's nothing serious.

It also, presumably, leaves Toby without a partner in the doubles. Not that that's the end of the world, especailly as Toby's had a good couple of matches.

Of course, it's always possible that he's not injured but sick - virus, something he ate etc. In which case, he may try the doubles (or it's not so serious anyway).

Yes, re JWH, I'm obivously crossing my fingers big time ! But, as you say, I've got no faith that'll it be right now - or, just as likely, he could have a great run this week, and blow out in the first round next. I don;t get the feeling he's the 'steady eddie' sort . . .

The Jo-Wil resemblance is quite marked, in my view. And not only the athleticism, power, skill but there something rather 'childlike and fun' about the each of them when they play (or 'down and blue' when it's not working or they don't want to be there).

Most players look as though they're working quite hard, mentally and physically, at winning their matches (and that's good because it's why they do well).
But Jo W (and Josh) seem to take delight in just the sheer fun of hitting good shots - not always the best plan for winning that specific match but very endearing and maybe very good groundwork for hitting those shots ten times over in later matches.

It made Jo W rather difficult to coach, and frustrating to watch sometimes, but you've got to go with the flow a bit. Do hope Josh WH does well (big picture) - he'd be a brilliant addition to top GB tennis . . .

Full round-up:

L16: (6) Josh Ward-Hibbert WR 694 beat (Q) David Mushayev (ISR) UNR (CH 1441 in 2012) by 4 & 4
L16: Jonny O'Mara WR 1043 lost to (WC) Mor Bulis (ISR) WR 1608 (CH 1475 in May) by 6-1 4-1 ret.
L16: Toby Martin WR 1036 lost to (4) Ivo Klec (SVK) WR 511 (CH 184 in 2006) by 6-2 3-6 6-3

QF: (6) Josh Ward-Hibbert WR 694 v (1) Michal Schmid (CZE) WR 497 (CH 385 in Aug)

Very sorry for Jonny hope it's not the injury flaring up again (but that seems the most likely explanation) ... not a bad scoreline for Toby against Klec though.

Gutted for Jonny. I really thought he was goin to have a big week after yesterday (or was it Monday). I hope it isn't his back again and that he has to fly home.

Sounds like a really goof effort from Toby as well taking Klec into 3 sets. Pity he couldn't see it though but no shame in defeat there.

As for JWH. He is the man this week. I just have the feeling that he will topple the Nš1 seed in the QF. Let's hope I haven't put the mockers on him.

Seconded. I think JWH is not too far away from a Futures breakthrough - perhaps not this week, but soon. CD's description of him from watching live is exciting - tremendous athleticism, height and power, combined with very sound technique. But very raw and green, without settled patterns of play - almost having too many shots in the locker which he can use...........and often making the wrong choices. When that is sorted, who knows how far he could go. I remember CD saying there was a lot of Tsonga about Josh, not physically (although that may also be the case), but in the all-action aggressive powerful way both play the game......J-W hasn't done badly!

I have only seen JWH in training sessions - La Manga last year - and not in a match situation. But the comparison with Tsonga when it comes to fluidity of power, movement and athleticism is absolutely correct. And if he can go on to have half the career of Tsonga, it will be an enormous success.

And one other thing is for sure: we will all have a lot of  fun in watching it.

As his coach, I can assure you that JWH is an absolute pleasure to work with.. He is putting the work in daily. We have a long term plan in place, but i strongly believe you will be hearing his name on more forums and TV stations over the coming years..

For now- head down and get the work in each and EVERY day.

It is great to pop into this forum and find out results and information on the guys and also to see the passion you all had for British tennis players- i am sure they all appreciate the support.

Keep up the great work

Dan Kiernan

Liam and JWH win their QF 6-0 6-3 so that's 2 teams in the semis.
