RE: Week 41 - Israel F13 ($10,000) - Akko (Hard)

We are a couple of tiebreaks (normal and MTB) from that all GB final as Evan/Luke survive MP on a "sudden death" point at *5-6

Yes. One tie break down, one to go. Into an MTB.

Darn it. Klec and Schmidt win 7 points in a row from 8-3 down to take the MTB.

So close.

Was about to post that with both singles semis complete, the final of the doubles was coming up now. But I'm sure that due to some rather strange scheduling, we will probably have to wait.

Josh and Liam's opponents in the final, Schmidt and Klec have just played each other in the singles. But why didn't they play the first match allowing them to rest while the other semi was taking place. But no, they put them on as second match.

Having said that, they have now just finished a long three setter, so maybe that will work in our favour a bit. Good luck to Liam and Josh,

I'm not going to quote the France vs GB ranking stats again re singles and doubles, but the more continued priority the LTA can show to singles over doubles, re funding, bonuses etc, the better in my view.

This is not at all meant to be anti doubles, it is a question of how the two currently compare in GB and where the emphasis needs to be !

We've had bonus payments for singles, so how about making people pay fines for winning doubles?

I get the impression these two will be a really good doubles pair.

Might even usurp Willis and Burton as GB no.1's soon...............

Very good to see Liam and Josh win the title.

BUT. while all things being equal the more highly ranked players the better, in current GB circumstances I'd very much prefer that players like Liam and Josh, and the further advanced Marcus, gave their absolute all to being very good singles players as opposed to being part of very good doubles pairs.

As long as the two can happily coexist particularly in futures, fair enough, but choices will probably have to be made at some time, and I know what direction I hope to see them going.

That could be the best idea for helping young British players to get their priorities right that anyone has come up with this year biggrin
