Te he, love that. will have a listen/watch, thanks philwrig.
On a grumpy note though I admire the work ethic , talent and outstanding commitment that has made Andy a Grand Slam Winner x2 and Olympic Gold Medallist and I'm completely delighted with Andy's achievements as a tennis player and exceptional athlete. I really don't want him to become a 'personality' first and a tennis player second.
Please keep the breakfast TV sofa chats to a minimum Andy and carry on giving us the tennis we love (and hate at times) to watch.
Oh come off it. A few interviews like this is part of winning a slam and the same thing happened after he won the US Open. Anyone who thinks he will put celebrity ahead of tennis has misunderstood the man to a quite absurd degree.
Transcript for anyone who can't access it because they are outside the UK:
Jamie Baker: "I've got an amazing story. I was actually in Rome airport coming back from my brother's wedding and I was with my girlfriend and she ... we couldn't get a TV anywhere, so she had put her phone on and we Facetimed her parents, who had the iPad right on the TV, so we watched it all like that and sure enough, as it went on, because we were on a BA flight, everybody British started gathering around us trying to get any news of what was going on. It was incredible!"
Male presenter: "That phone bill'll be interesting!"
Female presenter: "You were the crazy corner at Rome Airport, I'm guessing?"
Jamie: "Oh yeah, it was just, I've never seen anything like it. I actually messaged Andy - I said wait til I tell you how I watched you win Wimbledon"
It's always good when players prove they are just as mad as the rest of us

There was much speculation at the time of his appointment and since re Ivan Lendl's potential and actual impact as a coach.
Since Lendl's appointment Andy has clearly generally shown more aggresive intent in his play and much.less negative ( counterproductive ) attitudes. Technically his forehand has improved as a consistent attacking weapon out of all recognition ( although I do miss some of his classic backhands, but the overall effect is positive ). Oh, and he has won 2 Slams and an Olympic simgles gold medal.
While Andy himself deserves so much credit, it is very clear to me that the Lendl appointment has been a tremendous influence and apparently initiated some long needed changes. Certainly shows how important it can be to get such appointments right.
Lendl's advice and input on how to handle the dynamics of GS tournaments themselves, ensuring positive attitude on court, and how to win those key points must have been invaluable. From the nuances in what Andy has been saying about their relationship, it wouldn't surprise me if previous coaches have been telling him precisely the same things, it's just with Lendl he's listening with respect and taking action on the court. I agree about the minor technical improvements, but it's Andy's new freedom/willingness to attack early on in matches or when his back is to the wall, rather than rely on footspeed and defensive resilience which seems to be the biggest change.....and look at the results......I was aghast when he seemed to revert to his old self against Verdasco, but fortunately the "new" Murray resurfaced later in that match and for the rest of the tournament. What an appointment and what a pupil!

The Murray effect already being taken advantage of in this area, Monday morning leaflets through the door of all kinds of tennis activities for children.

I have no problem with Andy enjoying as much publicity and attention as his win deserves. Hard fought for and he has every right to enjoy it to the full.
My dislike is the 'Kim's hair' stories and the like, not a criticism of Andy more the way that the media put the tennis in second place to the 'lifestyle' articles.
I think Andy Murray's win is a very positive thing for British tennis, especially for encouraging younger players to either start or continue playing. As he has grown as a player he has become a great role model for younger players :)
