Cameron Norrie

Just to log here that Cam has made the QFs (and counting) of the Oct. 2021 Indian Wells event.

It's been a brilliant year for Cam - really changed his profile to become a proper contender.

Just shows how inspired it was for him to drop out of the NTC training programme and go off to college.

Knowing what was right for him, and at a young age, took quite a lot of guts really, after the LTA making quite a big thing about 'recruiting' him ....

And then to stop mucking around and partying (as his coach there said) and suddenly decide to focus.

All part of the growing up process.....

He's been a joy this year.

ADD: tx, Jon - revised to quarters as I was getting ahead of myself smile

I was just a little early - nothing like being ahead of the curve

From Stuart Fraser:

Cameron Norrie is the new British No 1. The 26-year-old becomes the 18th male player from this country to have that status since the ATP rankings began in 1973 (can you name them...?).

A 6-0 6-2 win against Diego Schwartzman takes Norrie into the semi-finals in Indian Wells.

I'm glad that Cam is getting an interview on the mainstream news. I know it's not a GS, but it's a pretty big tourney and there's hardly been a word.

When you consider that Henman and Rusedski won 1 masters title between them, Cam has achieved something quite significant in the context of British tennis.

Agreed, he's kind of snuck in through the back door as far as profile is concerned. I'm really rooting for him to make the WTF to give him the recogntion he deserves.

Cam's great year means his finished it as GB#1.

His stand out performance was his Masters win at Indian Wells, which contributes a 1/3 of his points and makes his October the best monthly performance by any of the Top 10 players. His successes in 2021 is reflected in the fact that 98.5% of the points contributing to his total come from this year, the most of any player (Andy Murray excepted (for obvious reasons). The other consequence of his success is that he has the highest lowest score (if that makes sense) amongst his counters at 45 points.
