Cameron Norrie

Cam has tweeted from Korea that he's tested positive for the dreaded, though no symptoms.

Perhaps could explain some of the other pull outs we've had this week and next.

Im sure it does - not sure why they arent being more open though, theres no stigma attached with it ?

Cam is going to be circa 500 points behind the effective final spot for Turin after today (FAA or Taylor Fritz , who plays a final in Tokyo 500 today) with Djoko qualified. Shame Cam isnt playing one of the events this coming week - looks like he will almost certainly need some big weeks in his final 3 events, specifically Stockholm, Vienna and Paris. Id go so far as to say hed need to win Paris and go very deep each week left to have a chance to qualify.

Cam Norrie posing the question as to why Djoko has qualified for the Masters purely on the back of his win at Wimbledon, when every else got zero diddly squat for their efforts there ....

And its a good question. They either should have all been given their points and the Wimbledon slam winner kept their entry ticket (my view - in which case Novak would have got enough points to qualify regardless, as would Cam) or they should have taken away the Wimbledon winners right to qualify. Having one route left and one closed down is inconsistent

It's arguably a bit inconsistent but not a real biggie for me. Probably is for Cam though!

The Slam winner and inside the top 20 in the race rule can still be said to stand on its own and it is a rule unrelated to the ranking points of the event.

That is the ATP argument in its entirety. And yes, a real biggie for Cam!!

He's got Tsitsipas first round. Horrible to see him playing here though.

Did he get Tsitsipas in Saudi as well as Abu Dhabi? or did you mean Abu Dhabi? Not sure UAE is in same boat as Saudi reputation wise, uae is always a regular tour venue!

For the 2nd year in a row, Cam finished the year as GB#1.

Not only did he finish the year as #1, but he managed to hold that position for all of 2022. As befitted GB's #1 player, Cam won the most prestigious of the titles claimed last year, two ATP250 events (Lyon, Delray Beach). The 640 points from Feb and 600 from August were the two highest monthly totals amongst the players. He tied with Dan for the most points from a single tournament (360) and would have led outright if points could have been won at Wimbledon, where he achieved his best Grand Slam result so far, which in any previous year would have gotten him 720 points.  But as this wasn't the case, remarkedly for a GB#1, Cam ended the year without any of his ranking points coming from grass tournaments (the 45 points from Eastbourne not being one of his counting tournaments).
