Cameron giving a lot of praise to stability, his Argentinian coach, and keeping the same team:
"Norrie is renowned in the locker room for his physicality, but he believes the stability in his support team has been the key factor behind his rise. Since 2017, he has worked with the Argentine coach Facundo Lugones, who has ensured that attention has been paid to every detail on and off the court.
Im not really like an English football club which takes a couple of losses and fires the coach, Norrie said. Its been a great journey so far with my team. We all have the same mindset, are all very accountable to one another and hold each other to a high level of professionalism. Everyone is taking care of their departments in the team and it is showing. I can go out, play and just take care of myself on the court."
Cam is the first player to be signed up for the only main tennis tournament in New Zealand (I don't even think there are ITF's or challengers here) as a pre-AO warm up.
At one time NZL had 10 ranked players and were in the mens strongest nation. There certainly used to be a WTA event (Aukland ?) in the run up to the Aussie open.
The WTA version is also running next year. It hasn't run since 2020, our borders were still closed at the start of 2022 (and aren't fully open until the end of July).
NZL had as many players as all that? Did not know this.
Alas, although I am a member on the ground, I am unlikely to be able to attend the event in 2023 for family reasons. Maybe in 2024!
Mentioned at Wimbly, I think, that Rhett Purcell is one of Cameron's best mate, if not 'the' best mate, and had flown into London to see his match and support him
Rhett, people will remember, did a 'Cameron in reverse' - in tennis terms, he was a Brit and then switched to New Zealand
