RE: WIMBLEDON PICK 'EM and Battle of the Boards

Many thanks to Bethan for doing a brilliant job yesterday both on the forums and with the site updates at the end of the day. smile

When I saw the results coming in on scoreboards around the grounds yesterday, I was amazed that they all seemed to be going my way, so was not too surprised (though still very happy) to find I was still so high up by the end of the day.

Though my picks weren't wildly patriotic, it was some 'heart over head' picks stopped me from ending the day in the lead, e.g. Childs, Boggo, Baker (I tended to pick Brits when I thought they had more than a 1 in 3 chance of winning) and I lost Karlovic too, which will have implications later on.

Lots of people had the big Croat going deep though, including one poor Croat from MTF who had him down to win the tournament and is 7th now but won't be for long!

Given what a lot of us think most of the posters on MTF are most interested in, is anyone at all surprised to see MTF so far in the lead in the teams competition on a day when Billy the bookie trounced the other robots? wink

Picks analysis for today (and a round up of R1) posted at http://www.britishtennis.net/07pickem/2007wmpa.htm - the links to it from the results pages now work too.

Five matches completed today and you lot (BT) edge ahead of us (GR) to lead the 'peloton' trying to chase down MTF.

We now have the outright individual leader though (the only way for me is down!), but there are 3 BTs in the top 10 (well, 11) - remember that ties are now broken by R1 score.

Thank you Gasquet!!! I knew continuing to pick you was worth the risk, and it is looking good for my charge up the leaderboard, as only Boggo and Becker of those I had making R32 are out at the moment, and then I had Becker losing that match as well

Looking for Ferrer and Muller to do the job for me today at the moment, as well as Tim

Of my R3 picks, I lost Boggo and Becker in R1 like you, but also Karlovic. I agree that the three R2 matches you mentioned are crunch ones, but I desperately need the opposite results to you in the two that don't involve Tim! LOL

I've added some new stuff this evening 'by popular demand' and I would suggest that if you want to bookmark a page for easy access to all the pick 'em results and other 'goodies', the best page to bookmark from now on is www.britishtennis.net/competitions.html - as a bookmark/favourite, it has the added advantage that it will work for every future pick 'em comp too!

The two things I have added this evening, both accessible from that page are:

www.britishtennis.net/07pickem/2007wmin.htm
= individual results sorted by team - a different view of the individual results which lets you see at a glance how you compare with the other members of your team instead of having to hunt down the full list looking for players with your team code. It has all the robots at the top and you can page down until you reach the table for your team.

The list is colour-coded to help you find your team quickly and has links to the main site for each team and its thread for this pick 'em, though some will report a file not found if you are not logged into them.

www.britishtennis.net/07pickem/2007wmen.xls
= a downloadable Excel file which shows everyone's picks (sensitive info like email addresses has been removed, naturally), with correct picks highlighted in blue and incorrect pinks in pink. I will update it every couple of days, but it's easy enough to keep up to date yourself if you don't want to keep downloading.

The download will be useful if you didn't print a copy of your picks when you entered or you can use it to analyse to your heart's content!

If you don't have Excel but want to be reminded of your picks, please ask someone else on your board to download the file - it is then simple to copy and paste a column (i.e. one person's picks) into an email or a message board post.

N.B. you download the Excel file at your own risk, but rest assured that I checked it with up to date Norton AV before uploading it.

Hope you like the new stuff!

Just can't believe how much work you put into this and what a fantastic job you and your helpers do. I've not yet managed to work out a)when you get your real work done b)when you pursue that other hobby of yours and c)when you sleep. Not only that but you are winning too. Amazing and brilliant. Thanks once again.

(Do you think you could also do something about the rain?)

I didn't want to say anything about being a student and not working, but seeing as you did wink.gif lol

Then again, I could be classed as just as bad as a student as I get to (mainly) work from home. Fall out of bed and I'm in the office - job's a good'un!
