Instread of forcing us to follow on and steamrollering us, Australia gave us a chance to get some confidence into our batsmen. We'll still lose but we're back in the series now!

Ponting is a bottler. And it proves he WAS worried about the old tiring legs and arms of Glenn McGrath

2nd Test - Adelaide

England won the toss and batted!

266 for 3 at close of play on Day One

Collingwood 98*, Pietersen 60* ( Bell made 60)

Much better prospects for this match than the last one.

Resumes ronight at 00.30

Did you see Petersons last shot of the day....the last ball he faced....bearing in mind how well england played during the day...he goes to hook lee....he actually tried to hook lee of his last ball and almost got caught at mid-on...it just goes to show you that as well as he played he does have a moment every now and then...lucky lucky boy....go colingwood for your ton !

yeah, u just cant belive the shots they come up with sometimes! i wonder if they eill play defsnive today? try and hang on, maybe draw the test? looks like a batting wicket so i expect the aussies would knock up a god total, or open up try and hit the big runs today and play for the win?

266 isnt a huge ammount over 1 day which is a slght concern.

I think that they will play safe till they get the new ball a bit worn out and then go for 550+ by the end of the day.

550 isn't a joke but even Harmison can stay at the crease for six or seven overs, so it can be done if we don't lose a wicket early.

Not a bad score coz its a really slow pitch in Adelaide!

Its 3 an over, which used to be the norm in tests til about 1998/9 when run rates began to creep up.

And our top four are definitely more toroises than hares. Scoring will be quicker today with Pietersen, Jones, Freddie Giles and Harmy batting alongside Collingwood.

Hope he gets his first ashes century. He deserves it!!

New ball isn't dangerous anymore.

Eng-er-land seem to be doing quite well now. Currently at 424-3. Certainly is good going from Collingwood and Pietersen so far. With Collingwood not far off a double century. Just 20 or so runs off it. I don't say this often but good luck to the Auld enemy

A great start to this threat and a brilliant knock from Colly and also KP.

Personally i think we need Harmy to be firing because without him playing well i cant see us taking 19 more aussie wickets or stopping australia scoring 400+

Oh, what a night. Early DEcember 2006, what a very special time for me, as I remeber what a night...

Not only did Colly, KP, Freddie and Gilo do the business, but we sneaked an early wicket!

My favourite thing was seeing McGrath bowl like an old, injured chump, and Warne bowl really well but go the longest he's ever gone into a match before getting a wicket...

They talk a good game but Warne and McGrath, whilst still matchwinners, don't have the same aura or intensity anymore!!!!

Harmy is gonna fire tomorrow!

Just watched the hilights from last night.

Great play from Colly....lots of cover drives as well as hefty blows over leg....only the 6th double hundred by an Englishman v Aussie. Last one on down under was 70 years ago or something....so you cannot understate this achievement....Kevin P was hitting them down the ground so hard it was awsome....length balls on the off stump were being creamed for 4...and to keep in the KP fashion got out pushing for a single to mid-on where Ricky Pointing fields....no wonder he was laughing to himself onthe way to the dressing room

Freddie and Giles strolled to 551 for 6 with both of them hitting warne for sixes.

First time that McGrath went for 100 runs with no wickets in an innings....and if Jones had not misread the flight Warne would have been wicketless too.

When the Aussies are good they look good....vice versa when they are being outplayed...Still it remains to Harmy to complete the turn around...he needs a 5for and Hoggie looks in the mood so hopewfully they can get them out for 200-250 max bat again and give the aussies 5 sessions to chase 500+......
