Reading along in this forum there seems to be a lot of genuine excitement and interest in the girls performance and not so much in the boys. Is that because the girls are the more interesting prospects for the future, people having girls playing themselves or something else?
Just curious :)
Two factors, in my opinion:
This forum in general has rather more followers of women's tennis than men's
Just random, I think, or a case of building momentum, i.e. women tennis followers find kindred spirits here and stay and the cycle carries on
Secondly, Hannah Klugman is the leading 2009 player in the world by a country margin (this might not translate to anything but it's a fact now). Equally, Mika is pretty close (being only two months older). Mimi obviously is surpassed by several very high-flying 2007 born girls who are now playing adults but is still right up there (and Hep is decent)
None of the boys has anything like Hannah's profile. So they don't have the spearhead, so to speak. And there's only really Oliver. Ben is a little way back. Oliver is certainly changing his claim to fame, so to speak, with his J500 win and might be a 'star' of GB future. But he's rather on his own. Given age and results profiles of all others.
On paper, the girls' group is definitely the more exciting one
Interesting! Do you think that Mark Ceban who is Les Petits As champion or Niall Pickerd Barua (a new name to me but is leading race to Monte Carlo) have the 'star' quality like Hannah Klugman?

Lets not forget Henry Searle is also a junior, albeit not playing junior events, but still a slam champion and ranked top 6 or so in juniors. With him, Arthur Fery, and then some of the college guys like JoMo or Toby Samuel, Jack PJ, the mens younger age groups arent too shoddy, compared to past years, IMO.
And my opnion may be quite different from others here - there's no 'right' answer :)
I think Mark Ceban is a very interesting prospect - I've been following him for some time now - since he was 12 at least. I'm a big fan (although that's easy to say now :))
And, like you, although I'd seen Niall play before, it was only this year that he suddenly really stood out for me -some really impressive stuff at the Nationals
But from an objective point of view:
ITF ranking Boys born in 2009
141 - Moise (FRA)
203 - Q Miguel (BRA)
337 - Mark Ceban (GBR)
i.e. Mark is 3rd in the world but there are big gaps between each one
It's defintiely not a 'Hannah' profile

Thanks, looking forward to seeing how they progress particularly Niall to see if he can push on in the TE super categories that are left this year!
