Is Hannah still the player with the most potential going forward or has Mimi gone up a level?
Hannah is about 18 months younger than Mimi
Which is a lot at this age
So, if you were to take yesterday's match, and their WTA and ITF junior rankings, as saying that they are both practically identical in terms of level, which would seem fair, then a neutral person would surely say that Hannah has more potential, just based on age.
Now, it's true that Hannah is particularly well grown for a girl who's just turned 15. But although that's important as of today, she had her big growth spurt much more recently than Mimi which can be a big hinderance in training and playing well (you're all arms and legs, and big feet to trip over). Also, it's not just physical, obviously, but important in terms of experience, maturity etc
Mika is in the mix too. Only 4 months older than Hannah and although with a more one-dimensional game, she has real weapons.

I agree CD 16 months between them needs to be factored around their physical development. What I like about Mimi is her physical strength, which I think will prepare her well for the rigours of the week in week out tour, and her tenacity when facing defeat. Never give up never give in. Hannah I think maybe is the most promising tennis player but thats not the whole picture. Whatever with Mika in the mix we have the makings of a strong BJK cup team moving forward. There will always be a dark horse or two coming through though that we havent spotted and eclipse the lot of them. Such is tennis. Love it!
From watching numerous matches involving Hannah and Mimi. Mimi has more raw power. Hannah however has all the shots can mix it up more. Not saying Mimi cant as she does and comes into to the net.
Since Mimi won here two years ago I dont see any huge difference in her game except she does have more variety.
When you add in Mika who I would describe as a Kvitova or Sabalenka style player we have 3 hugely exciting prospects.
Thats note taking into account players like Hep, Isabelle Lacy, and those recently out of the juniors.
Certainly exiting time in womens tennis right now when you look at the current players we have too.
Hannahs mental game just couldnt keep up which is why she lost but all credit to mimi for keeping calm and composed throughout a deserved winner
I don't agree
To me, Hannah started dreadfully, really couldnt deal with the wind, was having a service nightmare
And then managed extremely well to get it back together - showed good mental fortitude and problem solving - but the double faults, especially from the near camera end, with the wind, were really tricky and caused her problems, including on MP missed and Mimi's MP, which was not mental, it was just another DF to add to the huge collection she'd got already
In the third set, she was behind the whole way, not mentally, indeed, she did very well to make it difficult for Mimi and to hang on in, but Mimi just had the flatter shots, with more power, which were more effective in these conditions

So Hannah double faulted on both her and Mimi's match points?
Think it's really healthy that Hannah has strong competition at home. In fact that there are a bunch of players able to spur each other on.

Yes, but she double faulted on an enormous number of other points too
Reading along in this forum there seems to be a lot of genuine excitement and interest in the girls performance and not so much in the boys.
Is that because the girls are the more interesting prospects for the future, people having girls playing themselves or something else?

Just curious :)
Not sure its linked but in general the womens game on this board has generally more comments and analysis. Not sure why either but its been that way for a few years that Ive been around.

Two factors, in my opinion:
This forum in general has rather more followers of women's tennis than men's
Just random, I think, or a case of building momentum, i.e. women tennis followers find kindred spirits here and stay and the cycle carries on
Secondly, Hannah Klugman is the leading 2009 player in the world by a country margin (this might not translate to anything but it's a fact now). Equally, Mika is pretty close (being only two months older). Mimi obviously is surpassed by several very high-flying 2007 born girls who are now playing adults but is still right up there (and Hep is decent)
None of the boys has anything like Hannah's profile. So they don't have the spearhead, so to speak. And there's only really Oliver. Ben is a little way back. Oliver is certainly changing his claim to fame, so to speak, with his J500 win and might be a 'star' of GB future. But he's rather on his own. Given age and results profiles of all others.
On paper, the girls' group is definitely the more exciting one

I agree CD re momentum currently being with the girls. I know some are sceptical about social media and building a brand persona, but the girls are already doing this with some success. This must help to build their profiles. Having said that they have excellent role models to follow in Emma, Katie and Jodie who post really good content. I think this helps to maintain interest, particularly with sponsorship as Mimi has recently been signed up for Adidas. I follow the boys as well and I enjoy their success, but they havent really nailed this. Also the big players engage with social media, past and present, Federer is always on my feed as is Nadal along with Alex and Tsitsipas. I am not saying this is the reason, but just putting it out there as a way the boys could maybe gain back some of the momentum. Think they need some lessons!
PS Dont think we should forget Mark Ceban, looks like a potential star in the making.
