Boys & Girls: 2023 US Open (week 36)

Laura Robson said her plans were to play 2 x ITF seniors in Israel (15k & 25k). Qualifiers for the two domestic 60ks and possibly the Orange Bowl.

Oh dear, loses first set to Samsonova 6-0....

Opponent seems to be too strong at the moment, we'll have to hope that she starts getting her hair off....

Edit - and now 0-3* in the 2nd....starting to feel glad that I decided to come to the gym instead.....no

Just started watching this. It seems that Hannah can't get more than two balls in a row into the court. And as I type this she retires.

I wonder if she will be well enough to return to court in the doubles later.

Unfortunately Hannah couldn't recover and she and Mimi give a walkover.

The finals are set for today as:

Boys (7) Joao Fonseca (BRA) v (11) Learner Tien (USA)
Girls: (9) Tereza Valentova (CZE) v (WC) Katherine Hui (USA)

Two of the four were in the pro draws as wildcards (Learner Tien lost to Francis Tiafoe and Katherine Hui lost to Eugenie Bouchard in qualifying). Hui has only played a handful of junior ITF tournaments ever (she has won more matches than she has lost in the few $15K tournaments she has played this year, and has been unchallenged in this draw - the 5 games Samsonova took off her yesterday in the semis being the most she has conceded in any match here). Valentova reached a $60K semi in the summer to propel her to WTA660 Tien is the most successful of the 4 at junior grand slam level. He mainly plays ITF mens circuit (ATP 600) but his 3 junior tournaments this year includes the final in Melbourne and semi in Paris. Some will remember Fonseca from his quarter-final against Henry Searle at Wimbledon. Tien beat him at the same stage in Paris
