Seems there is less interest in the Male WCs but Liam, Jan and Ryan are in a qualifying position so an upgrade to MD would be reasonable and George Loffhagens current form may earn him one but other than that there is no one really close to the qualifying cut off to justify one yet.

Yes, the huge gap of GB players in the 200-350 rankings is a big problem

Looking at the others, and dependent on how they play in the grass lead-up events, I think Arthur Féry might have a decent chance of a MD wildcard - he would be my most likely 'other'. George Loffhagen is also possible. Both are young, and quite highly thought of. And both playing well.

But it's going to be a hot contest for those quali wildcard spots

We've got a lot of contenders for those, not only guys who are very close in ranking but people like Anton who are good on grass. (Is Max still injured?)

There's one for Luca Pow already assured. And two for the Play-off competition. It's going to be a scrap for the others - it's bound to be contentious.

 Yeh !!!!!!

Go, Arthur, go George !!!!

Thank you, LTA biggrin

Are you sure you are not on the selection committee yourself CD wink

Wouldnt be surprised if Charles Broom end up with one of the spare qualifying WCs. Into the quarters in Ilkley.

I'm a bit confused with why Arthur would get one? I like him but have I missed some amazing results?

hes been doing well in the US COllege scene and certainly one of the top few ranked players on that circuit, and had a very good grass season last year. I think he is deserving

Yep, I would give him one - as he would either now have to withdraw at QF stage to head for WC Play offs or withdraw from WIld card play offs and focus on Ilkley and miss Wimlbedon.

Surely a QWC is the answer now?

Indeed, Ive only just realised its Wednesday so WC play off starts tomorrow. Although maybe a Semi-final might push him to towards a Main draw one. I think a final would get him one.

But they didn't do that for Sam Murray in previous years, in pretty much the same situation

Now, Charlie may havve a slightly higher profile (being that bit younger and out of college, so not so long on tour) but I don't think it's necessarily how the committee think

Lord above at some of those *main draw* wildcards. Surely worth giving Oli Golding and George Morgan one each in that case.

which would be such a shame - joined up thinking etc? part of the point of the grass season for Brits is getting to a position where you get into Wimbledon one way or another and to have that denied because you have done well in one of the grass events, which the AELTC and LTA are promoting as a "season" seems totally unjoined up. I had forgotten the Sam thing; maybe he needs to miss the PO's, just do well here and get one of those wild cards through another win or two here.

As with the women, they seem to have left two spots - to be decided AFTER the wildcard play offs?

Dan COx had a very strong case for a direct Q wildcard, IMO, but is maybe subject to age bias.
Charlie's fate hangs in the balance...
But, like the women, it'll be a strong wild-card playoffs, if they're all playing, but there aren't all that many spots

GENTLEMEN'S QUALIFYING SINGLES
1 Billy HARRIS (GBR)
2 Johannus MONDAY (GBR)
3 Mili POLJICAK (CRO)
4 Luca POW (GBR)
5 Toby SAMUEL (GBR)
6 To be announced
7 To be announced
8 Wild Card Play-off place
9 Wild Card Play-off place

Just as reminder, the criteria for the wildcard spots are:

Mens Wild Cards.

1 wild card from winning the UK Pro League Felixstowe
1 wild card from winning the Progress Tour Cromer
1 wild card from winning the LTA British Tour Premier West Worthing
Top ranked NCAA player having signed in (subject to the player being in the NCAA top 100)
If any of the above wild cards are not required or accepted the wild card will go back to the LTA
Performance Team
2 further discretionary wild cards from the LTA Performance Team *

Ryan Storrie has one of the spots.
Giles Hussey has another (although probably not required)
Patrick Brady, I think, has the third

So the others will be highest sign-ins

I'm expecting Oli Bonding to get a wildcard into the play-offs. Possibly Henry?

Do the wildcard play off fields get determined and announced today?

Does anyone know (and I am guessing Lambda will be the one to come to rescue!!) where or how they will show results etc for these - will there be a tournie link on the LTA site or are we just expected to get there through some onsite journos tweeting ( I seem to recall that when Marcus did well, it was all word of mouth and journalists throwing out occasional updates?!).

It looks like it is 2 days - so round one on day one, then two rounds on day two? And presumably these are best of 3 sets with tie breaks at 6 all or is the 3rd set different??

The draws have to be announced today because matches start tomorrow

The draw is normally on the LTA website and updated at the end of the day, but I don't remember livescores (might be wrong....)

I take it Aidan Mchugh is bypassing the grass court season as not even mentioned as a QWC
