2023 ITF Wheelchair Tour

In March we have a couple of biggish events.

The ITF Series 1 Georgia Open starts march 8th and is at the Rome venue where the recent mens challenger took place.

The Super Series Cajun Classic follows in Baton Rouge on March 14. Super Series are like the 1000 events in pro tour tennis.

Entries not listed yet.

The Series 1 Georgia Open in Rome starts today- the wheelchair equivalent of the sunshine swing.

www.itftennis.com/en/tournament/georgia-open/usa/2023/wc-itf1s-usa-01a-2023/

A strong mens draw has Alfie as top seed, Gordon as 7th and also Ben Bartram

Womens draw has Lucy and Cornelia in it

Quads has Greg Slade as our only entrant.

Sadly Alfie and Gordon keep ending close to each other in the draws recently, it would be good to see them opposite halves!

mens singles has 20 players, womens 14 and quads 15.

Alfie reached the singles final where he plays the Japanese youngster Oda.

Alfie and Gordon took the mens doubles title over Oda and Ben Bartram

And Lucy Shuker did brilliantly to win the womens doubles title with American Dana Mathewson

Lucy winning is a welcome return to winning in a big event. Not singles but welcome news for her.

All the other Brits move on to the Super Series Cajun Classic next week in Lafayette . Alfie has the small matter of the mens singles final to play here in Rome, Ga., tomorrow.

And Alfie indeed took the title and did the double here.

Well done to him and also Lucy, and Gordon, for titles this week.

Gordon won his singles quarterfinal with another seeding upset, 2 in one event. Into the semis.

This week he isnt due to play Alfie until a possible final. Fingers crossed

A bit of a shock as Alfie Hewett lose his last 8 match against Dutchman Spaargaren.

Just Gordon left in singles

As well as Gordon in singles , we have Alfie and Gordon, Lucy Shuker and Andy Lapthorne in their respective doubles semifinals.

None are seeded to win titles so anything we pick up would be a bonus this week. But Gordon, so far, is the star of the week.
