British Tour 2023

Shortened matches due to weather, I assume

But Eleanor Dean won her match, 4-2 4-1

She now plays the youngster, Shamiso Ndoro

Weather yesterday was horrendous up here, suspect they are well behind as not many indoor courts. Today is dry though but chilly

Oh glad I popped into this thread since Eleanor Dean has popped up.

Was a great prospect who certainly knew how to hit the ball. I saw her playing in Glasgow a good few years ago now, on one of her comebacks from injury. Played really well but then I saw her walking with a pronounced limp later on. So sad how things have gone for her and have to wish her the very best.

The Ilkley Open is also being held alongside the British Tour so there are a lot of matches to catch up on, and a lot of the players are also playing in the Ilkley Open.

They've put a message on the Ilkley Open tournament for the latest score
Current scoreline: The Weather 1, The Ilkley Open 0

I used to play in this when younger, they have (or had) around 30 plus events through the Open mens and womens singles, doubles, mixed, all age groups from 12, 14, 16, 18 singles and doubles, evening events (for people who work) , handicap singles and doubles events. It used all 18 or so courts , grass , hard and indoor (luck of draw what you got) and must have been a nightmare to referee and schedule. Massive event , always played this time of year and seemingly it always rained , non stop. For the week.

Newcastle Grade 2

Congrats to 2008-born Georgiana Mititelu who beat top seed and WTA 956 ranked player, Emma Wilso, in R2

Alexandra Walker, who used to be top-1000, is now about 30 and works, I think, as director of tennis at Millfield, is second seed.

The men's draw has Liam Hignett and Patrick Foley as top two seeds

The Sutton Premier big money tour event is taking place this week

We have, in the past, occasionally had a separate thread for this but the standard used to be a lot higher (the domestic ITFs this wekk obviously clash) and I'm not sure it deserves one as such. If someone wants to they can, and this can be moved over.

Women

Tiffany William and Emma Wilson are the top two seeds, with the rest nearly all being juniors

Men

Adam Jones is top seed. The second seed dropped out but there are a few lower ATP ranked players (Brandon Murphy, Jack Gibbens, Alexis Canter etc)

Also mens and womens and mixed doubles

Thanks CD- I think the British Tour events all sit neatly in here and dont really need a separate thread , as you say it is a week entry. I think we sometime ago had separate threads for UKPL events but eventually they went into one single annual thread.

does the Progress Tour have its own thread, out of interest?

The Sutton event made a lot of sense to have as a separate thread when we had half of our top players taking part - some years it really had a very high calibre of intake, and with the doubles as well.

But it's not quite the same now. Although still an excellent event for anyone who lives nearby - pays far more than an ITF 15k

Women

Congrats to (6) Danielle Hack, US college player, who beat (2) Emma Wilson WTA 977

And to (8) Anna Popescu who took out (1) Tiff William WTA 903

(7) Ciara Moore def. Lois Newberry

And (q) Sofia Aquilina beat Giulia Lesa

Which gives us two 16 year-olds in the semis too
