I think the UK Pro League has largely taken the place of Premier events, leaving the LTA to focus on offering an expanded BT at mostly G2 level.

that would make sense - I think I have said before, I wondered if BT and UKPL should in essence merge, with UKPL like the Masters 1000 brand (or Premier) of the BT, but all interlinked. Maybe with people doing well at BT level getting UKPL wild cards and a joint points system not unlike the main ATP/WTA Tours.
It might make sense. They could still keep the branding of the UKPL events but maybe under a new overall banner of the UK Tennis Tour or something.

I dont know if it was planned before Covid but the UKPL has been a great addition to the domestic calendar. Not sure it would have got off the ground as well as it did without Covid. Which meant reasonable ranked players played in it. but it is great as offers decent money and guaranteed games. Very useful for anyone coming back from injury to get some games in as well.
I noticed after this week, there are other grass court events in the British tour at west Worthing, Frinton and also Felixstowe , where the UKPL is this week.
There is also the Scottish Grass Court Championships at Giffnock, which is great and Scotland has a great tradition with these championships at Craiglockhart in years gone by. Yet, it isnt quite what it seems
The Scottish Grass Court Championships arent in fact on grass - rather, artificial grass. Which is a shame anyway but why call them the Scottish Grass Court championships if they arent on real , natural grass? The Scottish Championships , maybe? Or Scottish Outdoor, or Giffnock Open or the whatever. But artificial grass isnt grass.
All 8 of the quarter-finalists in the women's here are juniors
Getting good practice for the important junior grass events coming up. And hoping for the wimbly wildcard playoff place.
There isn't a play-off place on offer here. That will be on offer for winning the Premier in Worthing in a couple of weeks. Or did you mean hoping they would get noticed for a discretionary WC?

Hey Lambda - just remind us that arent as close to these things (and I know youve posted about it many times!!) which events do feed in to that wild card play off?
Worthing as you mention, does this weeks UKPL event feed in to it as well? Was there anything from the Progress Tour or any junior events? And any others that have taken place on non grass surfaces that we might already know the winner of? Thanks!

presumably if any of those qualifying routes goes to someone who gets into qualies via a WC or into the play offs via ranking (or duplicates a position) it reverts to an additional discretionary wild card?
