As an aside also , we lorded it a bit when Truss and Sunak ran off for PM. Both did PPE at Oxford and I think Im correct that they both got 2:1 degrees which is Very laudable of course. My son completed his PPE degree in 2019 and got a first at Oxford, and we know what he is like , so it made My wife and I shudder for the future Of the country !
PPE ?
Sorry, Politics, Philosophy and Economics as a combined degree
Ha - youre right it is Philosophy first and that was the P that really rocked my sons boat.
Youre also correct re grade inflation, it has become a massive issue at all universities , definitely. My son finished his degree in 2019, so not sure what it looks like in 2022 results but similar, I am sure.
But he is v bright and devours information and knowledge. Whether he can help our country, time will tell. He knew three things on graduating - he didnt want to be a banker (and all the banks courted them wire big money offers ); he didnt want to do consulting (his old man ie me put him off that - I dont want to follow my dad!); and he didnt want to go into big Politics as he cant stand the games and cant get behind any of the parties.
Hes naturally slightly left wing, but not Labour. He stood for the Yorkshire Party in local elections up here whilst at Uni. But he went into local government on the national grad scheme and is with RBKC in London at Kensington Town Hall and enjoying it there. He will go far, but whether it will be in local government or something else, time will tell! Hes only 24 , so a long time ahead to decide and make a difference
There were only 17 on the alt list (one non-Brit and several that I haven't seen on any lists before) and several slots spare in qualifying. Still ar ound 2/3 of our ranked players missing.
Wonder who gets MDWC's - Marni, Jasmine plus who ?
And please remember that Kwarteng's PhD is entitled:
Kwarteng, K. A. A. (2000). "Political thought of the recoinage crisis of 1695-7". (Doctoral thesis).
Well, I've zip idea about the recoinage crisis of 1695 but, dollars to donuts, it doesn't have diddly squat to do with anything useful at the moment
That is not the point of PhD really. Achieving one demonstrates one's ability to carry out original (and often rigorous) research and present it in a (currently) academically acceptable format. Actually I think that's a great title and I almost want to read it LOL.
I studied for one myself (though never completed) but the exercise certainly benefited me I do believe.

I should imagine that one would be Ella McDonald. The other might be for Gabby Knutson. Her semi final today in Bulgaria was much delayed by rain so perhaps she has a place in the main draw.
