Great tournament for Heather and not a bad effort today. Niemeier deserved it though.
Hopefully this gives her some oomph for a strong second part of the year, rather than it being a last hurrah at Wimbledon. Winning a USO MD match would probably be as big a deal as a 4R here.
Bouzkova beat Garcia 7-5 6-2, Garcia having been the player to emerge from the section including Emma, Katie S and Lily and earlier discussed a bit as to its overall strength or lack of it.
Garcia didn't do too bad, did she? Beat Raducanu, who had previously beaten AvU, and then beat Zhang in a tight 2-setter.

Someone had to emerge into the L16 from that section of 8 players and it was Garcia. And I am sorry, but if the discussion is over the general strength of that section, it is no real argument at all to point out that she had beaten other players in the section, some of whom had beaten other players.
The then loss to Bouzkova could always be a one-off but in general I remain unconvinced that it was ever anywhere near the sort of section you have tried to make out over various posts. In particular it could have proved a very good section for Emma if she had been near her best which clearly she wasn't.

I thought it was clear we had a difference of opinion on this a few days ago, I don't see why you're trying to draw me further on the matter. I gave the reasons for my viewpoint, that's it. No worries from my side.

Would Heather have been back in the Top 100 if points were being awarded or could she have to go through qualifying for Flushing Meadows?

Yes, Heather would be back on the top 100 if there were points.
I just heard that Simona Halep was never able to defend her 2019 title, first due to Covid then injury. She's certainly playing like a defending champion at the moment.
