R4: WATSON, Heather (GBR) 121 lost to NIEMEIER, Jule (GER) 97 2-6 4-6

So, Heather wasn't able to repeat her win against Jule earlier this year. cry

Someone had to emerge into the L16 from that section of 8 players and it was Garcia. And I am sorry, but if the discussion is over the general strength of that section, it is no real argument at all to point out that she had beaten other players in the section, some of whom had beaten other players.

The then loss to Bouzkova could always be a one-off but in general I remain unconvinced that it was ever anywhere near the sort of section you have tried to make out over various posts. In particular it could have proved a very good section for Emma if she had been near her best which clearly she wasn't.

I thought it was clear we had a difference of opinion on this a few days ago, I don't see why you're trying to draw me further on the matter. I gave the reasons for my viewpoint, that's it. No worries from my side.

Just to add a bit of special respect for Tatjana Maria, now in the QFs of the singles, who is the mother of two little girls

Her younger daughter was only born 14 months ago

It's a great show of how different profiles, different career and life paths, can all lead to success

As an aside, her husband is French, and is also her coach

She also plays French club tennis every year, and so has a lot of support in the French press

I just heard that Simona Halep was never able to defend her 2019 title, first due to Covid then injury. She's certainly playing like a defending champion at the moment.

None of the Wimbledon quarter finalists were in either this year's Australian Open or French Open QFs.

Only Swiatek and Pegula were in both the Australian Open and French Open QFs.

So there have been 22 Slam singles quarter finalists so far this year.
