Weeks 26 and 27 - The Championships, Wimbledon (grass) - men's singles

Cam has a very enticing draw to reach the semis. This is his section:

Humbert v Goffin
Tiafoe v Bublik
Norrie v Johnson
Paul v Vesely

All of them will fancy their chances but Cam is the highest seeded left by far.

All of Jack (court one), Liam (court 3) and Ali (court 12) have tough matches versus seeds today. Anyone of them winning would be a bonus , instinct tells me it wont happen but they will 3 go down fighting.

Court 12 line up looks very watchable as a line up today.

Just watching start of ALi G. COmmentator (Scottish guy, Jamie Baker?) mentioned the coach, Mark Taylor, is working with both Ali and Ryan P. He seems to be doing a very good job!

Alastair started poorly, looked nervous, didn't get a point on the board for a while and was immediately 0-3 down

But then played a lot better, far more even, had break back chances....

Lost the set 3-6

But just a warm-up set?

I think he's great to watch. There are errors there I know but when he hits a groove he's a top player.

If those "grooves" could just last a little longer!

Yes, absolutely - he's always been one of my little faves, after seeing him live playing brilliantly on grass at Surbiton before going to college

He seems to look a fair bit more solid now, too, even compared with this time last year, not just the flashes of brilliance but more secure on the basics too

Hes a good commentator / expert , speaks very well and intelligently

I have to say I find Scottish commentators in general among the best across many sports

Real shame Ali tightened up and got all nervy when serving for the set
And the tiebreak
But it's new territory for him....

Under the Stupid Headlines of the Day Award

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/tennis/article-10963189/Australian-Jason-Kubler-storms-Wimbledon-second-round-THRASHING-local-hope-Dan-Evans.html

"New Aussie Wimbledon hero: Jason Kubler, 29, breaks British hearts as he whips rising star and storms into the second round.."

Calling Dan Evans a 'rising star' is a bit of a stretch, surely ...... no

Mind you, the Radio Times page reported that there were five men wildcards and five women wildcards

And the BBC Facts line that scrolls across the page this morning said there were five male wildcards and all had won bar Paul Jubb.....

How is it SO difficult to get the basics right?

I mean, you only have to do a 'control find' for 'wc' on the draw and they'll all pop up ....
