RE: Weeks 26 and 27 - The Championships, Wimbledon (grass) - men's singles

The Peniston Pullman runs out of puff in SW19:

L64:  Steve Johnson (USA) WR 93 defeated (WC) Ryan Peniston WR 135 by 3, 2 & 4

Ryan looked very flat (exhausted?).  There were occasional flashes of brilliance, but Johnson didn't really let him get into his stride.  At least he showed a bit of fight in the third set & got on the scoreboard in each one...  cry

Only watched the 3rd set, Ryan missed on quite a few important points - for some reason he was only slicing his backhand. Not sure why? Shame, was a great opportunity to get into R3. Great summer nonetheless, and what a rise up for him.

Not to be for Ryan today but he's had a good few weeks. Really, really hope he can continue to build on this success going forward.
What a lovely nice chap he is.

Let's hope Kokkinakis can hold Djokovic up a little longer so Cam Norrie and Emma's match times don't clash. I can't see that happening however...

Cam's level took a serious dip in set two. He's got a match on his hands now.

Our first man through to the last 32:

L64:  (9) Cameron Norrie WR 12 defeated Jaume Munar (ESP) WR 71 by 6-4 3-6 5-7 6-0 6-2

Strange match!  Munar another noisy bugger!  furious  Played some good stuff in the second & third sets, though, while Cam wasn't exactly at his best.  A bit more consistency & Munar might have had Cam!

L32:  (9) Cameron Norrie WR 12 vs Steve Johnson (USA) WR 93

Here's hoping this is the time Cam will finally get past round 3 and into the last 16 of a slam.
I have faith he'll do it.

Gritty fightback from Cam. Here's hoping he can play his way into the kind of form he showed at Indian Wells

Andy jumping up and down like a manic spring rabbit - you'd think he'd won the title - but he's actually just won a set

You've got to love it though

Court seems so slow.

Andy, sadly, ultimately unable to subdue the bloody 37-year-old Yank missile-launcher:

L64:  (20) John Isner (USA) WR 24 defeated Andy Murray WR 52 by 6-4 7-6(4) 6-7(3) 6-4  cry

Wimbledon's two great crowd favourites exit in successive matches on Centre Court.

For a great swathe of the British public all emotional involvement with this year's competition is already at an end.

Overall, Isner deserved to win. Andy tried his hardest but Isners serve was just too good and he backed it up with some lovely volleying as well
Hes never been one of my favourites but Isners post-match interview was awesome I thought and he really went up in my estimation.

So Andy is out and you have to question whether he will be back again - I do hope so!
