 Young George can take this as a learning exercise - the man who said the bad words lost

And the rest of us can enjoy the intensity and flair of the tennis

With each Djokovic Wimbledon triumph I think what might have been.

Clearly Sir Andy has had a great career with 3 Slam titles ( including 2 at Wimbledon ) and 2 Olympic Gold Medals.

But I look at the Wimbledon comparison.

After Wimbledon 2016 :

Djokovic : 3 titles 1 RU
Murray : 2 titles 1 RU

Andy had won both their matches on the Wimbledon grass courts ( well any grass courts ) - straight 2 sets in the 2012 London Olympics SF and straight 3 sets in the Wimbledon 2013 final.

Andy finished 2016 as WR 1. Federer was not getting any younger. Nadal was not at his best on grass. The next generation was falling short.

It looked like there could be a good few more titles to come for both and that Andy maybe had Djokovic's measure on grass.

 

Wimbledon 2017 :

Lost in 5 sets to Sam Querrey in the QF, effectively breaking down in the final 2 sets with further issues from a hip problem that first caused real concern at Roland Garros a few weeks before.  

So now, on top of not great form in the first few months of 2017, Andy was not to play again in 2017 and we have followed his ops, recuperations and determined efforts to get back near his best in the years since. The earlier in the year Doha hard court final remains to this day the 36th and last time he has played a competitive match against Djokovic.

 

After Wimbledon 2022 :

Djokovic : 7 titles, 1 RU
Murray : 2 titles, 1 RU

Watched all of this today from holiday in Madeira. It was intense and a match to not turn away from. Not a classic but a high quality, heavyweight battle. Nick lost that third set by himself and the match with it. Suspect he regrets that.

Both speeches at end were class; Djoko went up in my estimation with that, kudos to him.

Nick needs to build and will come again, I have no doubts.

US Open will be interesting - Djoko and Nadal may both not play; Will Fed be back? Alcaraz, Sinner and Medvedev will possibly go in as favourites

So although Wimbledon wasnt counted towards ranking or race points it seems it does count when qualifying someone for Turin in the beat slam winner rule

As per ATP website : Djokovic won Wimbledon this year, making him eligible for the Grand Slam winner rule. If there is one current-year major champion positioned between eighth and 20th in the Race, he qualifies in eighth place.

Me wrong , I am good with it as I didnt think points should be removed anyway, but surely this feels inconsistent to count Wimbledon via another method?

Also potentially not great news for Lloyd/Harri who likely have to finish top 7 now as Ebden/Purcell a fair way behind.
